what's funny about Sully is that he was Torts' like, only assistant coach through his entire NYR run, and Torts would constantly say poo poo like "I have no idea why this guy isn't a head coach. It's insane. I don't need any other assistants. He absolutely should be a head coach.", and I thought for years he was just being a cool dude who's supporting his buddy, but he was actually just 100% right lol

For real if you’re the 6th highest-paid player in the league and your coach is saying this about you in the playoffs it’s time to consider retiring

The comments in that twitter thread make me think someone is getting a drat near free PPG center this summer (probably with some generous salary retention)

I get he's under-performing but unless he's meant to be scoring 5 goals and strapping on goalie pads I don't think he's the reason things are going poorly. A goalie putting up an .889 for the series is not the result of one player not having the heart of a true champion, that's huge systemic problems

Other than every series that had a team on the edge of getting knocked out blowing out their opponent yesterday?

After gambling was legalized almost everywhere?

Just a lot of suspicious hockey yesterday! And for the pattern to continue, Florida, Calgary, and the Rangers would all have to win today.

I'm not going with the conspiracy angle but to echo what others have said previously, it seems really poor taste of Sportsnet to have Elliott Friedman talking about changing betting lines between periods.

They all are. Players, coaches, journalists, front office staff.

You don't have to believe in tinfoil conspiracies to think that intermeshing gambling so completely with the games will affect the outcomes.

I mean, all major pro sports leagues are multi billion dollar media businesses with anti-trust exemptions. Do people in this thread really think the outcomes are left up to chance because of the integrity of the referees or ownership?

Come on, grow up.

Left up to total chance, when each game played creates millions and millions in revenue? The more games, the better, all things considered?

Tavares’ line has been out scored at even strength consistently since his second year as a Leaf, he’s a powerplay specialist that the PP doesn’t even run through and he’s also bottom 10 in the league in goals vs. expected the last two years running. The writing is very much on the wall for Tavares’ effectiveness, he hasn’t played defense in three years and despite his point totals he’s actually done less on a high-powered offense than his opportunity. The unfortunate thing about the Leafs is that they need that much salary to do work for them, there’s no room for a guy to not tilt the ice for $11M. If they can get past Tampa and match up with some teams that are less aggressive or fast on the forecheck maybe he’ll start to look like a player but it’s not a good situation.

I know Campbell didn’t have the best game last night, but he was rocking a >.920 until 10 minutes into game 4. Also Vasilevskiy’s sv% and record in the series is identical, is that a sign that Tampa has huge systemic problems?

Simple solution: make teams play out all seven games, no matter who wins four first. Give losers a chance to inflict some real damage for the next round. Any player who skips these meaningless games gets suspended for the next round.

Should the NHL have the Hawks and Preds redo their series in case it was rigged?

No disrespect to the preds, I'm a firm believer that Nashville sweeping them was rigged and robs the Hawks of truly accomplishing what their capable of. I've spent the last few days in pure disbelief and it just doesn't make sense to me. I've spent the entire regular season watching the Hawks play great hockey it's just not fair.

If the Hawks lose again I will face that the Preds deserved the win, but I am just 100% sure it was rigged and does a big disservice to the Hawks and the NHL.
