If you really have to have one you could do a lot worse than our Aunty Liz though. So on the whole yes it's probably true, anecdotally nobody at all seems to fancy anyone in the running as the next monarch. Queen Meghan just to burst some blood vessels. Then pension them off with some land and a castle, they can live on the rent/tourism.

The queen is more popular than the rest of the dreadful mutants in the family, owing partly to the fact that she is probably the most respected public figure in british history (and given how long she's been around that's impressive) and also that she has been around forever, literally since the auld king died, and thus is simply "the monarchy" for 99% of people alive today. When she goes I don't think the monarchy is going too, but it's certainly the best thing that could happen for republicanism short of her walking out into the middle of the mall and doing a big poo poo on her crown and saying "one's decided to pack it all in" and abdicating. You could just use the guillongtine, as in a guillotine with many neck holes side by side and a very long blade, the blade is already angled so you just need to figure out how big the guillotine needs to be, possibly repurposing some sort of sluice gate mechanism.

When I think desirable traits in a political leader, given the events of the last seven years or so, "willing to bet everything on a showboating attempt to win public approval with no plan for what happens if it doesn't turn out how you want it to" is definitely one I think we need more of.

Also they aren't 'machines' they're just a collection of lined up components that you can point at and go 'oh thats a bit Heath Robinson isn t it?' Then you do that thing Wallace does with his hands.

Can no longer view tweets at all in unsigned in incognito window. That's since this evening  I do 'allow cookies' in the incognito windows when I am using them so not sure why it would do that, I mean how does twitter know it's an 'incognito' window and not just a cleaned up regular browser or even new browser window with no cookies etc yet? (Ed: ok I googled the bit about 'how does it know' and there's some stuff about the css files so I guess they can). Can still see them in the unsigned regular browser window (though a bit of a scroll and they put the login screen up).
