Speaking of Sutter, it’s blowing my mind that the Jordan Staal trade happened a decade ago. Hell, his 10-year $60mil deal ends next year and he was a decent player through the entire thing

Brendon Sutter missed the entire season with long COVID after catching the Brazilian P1 variant in March 2021, and as of a couple weeks ago is still not healthy enough to practice, crazy poo poo

I'm sure the Canucks would love to trade OEL but it ain't happening without taking on an even worse contract. I genuinely cannot believe Jim Benning gave up the 9th overall last year and a 2nd rounder this year for him less than a year ago.

Trotz has his warts but he’s not going to play grindy boring hockey if his team is talented. Washington was anything but boring in his 4 years. Having watched those Nashville teams 2009-2011, they actually still had a really good system. I don’t know how to describe it other than it was a team of Shea Weber and mostly nobodies but Trotz had them making crisp passes up and down the ice. Seriously , like I’m sure they grinded a bit, but they really moved the puck up the ice really well. Which , given the players, was absolutely a coaching thing IMO.

Trotz lets his offensive players off the leash, they're just also expected to play within the system when they don't have the puck. My only major complaint about his time in DC was that he definitely favored veterans over young guys, but a lot of coaches are like that. Maybe the Islanders seemed grindy and boring but as others have said, I don't know what else you do with that roster. On paper it looks good but not spectacular, and he got a lot out of it.
