Also probably couldn't make it out on TVs when it was contemporary, but the Joe Piscapo program is titled "Ronald D. Moore"

That’s probably a TNG-R addition, since they had to redo a lot of those graphics from scratch for HD. RDM hadn’t joined the series at that point yet.

Naked Now was the SECOND episode aired if you count Farpoint as the initial two part movie. I remember because I was pretty young when it came out and it was extremely uncomfortable to watch with my parents!

Of all the episodes to make your opener. The Naked Time's hook is that these characters that you know and understand are acting completely contrary to your expectations, but in Naked Now, we don't have any idea who these guys are. And how the hell did the gently caress water work on Data? (I get that Naked Time was only the sixth episode, but given that the fandom was built almost entirely in syndication post-cancellation, it could be your first episode or your 50th.)

Again, second episode aired. It may have been the sixth produced but the air order was literally "Encounter at Farpoint", "Naked Now"

Why don't you perform zazen, facing a wall?
Naked Time’s hook isn’t that people are just acting out of character. It’s that their deepest desires, of which they are themselves ashamed, come to control them. The character tension that this episode reveals about Spock and Kirk—basically their shared regret that they can’t experience intimacy with others due to their respective ideals—goes on to define them.

Naked Now, is a Wesley episode. It also shows us that everyone on the crew wants to gently caress around, but especially Tasha tho. It’s not that it isn’t kind of entertaining, but it’s puerile. It’s not even that it’s a misreading of the original episode either, a lot of what happens in Naked Time is sexual—Chapel confesses her lust for Spock, Sulu strips and whips his sword out, Kirk has this amazing line about “flesh woman”, several people horn on Rand more than usual, even Riley’s stupid song is about romantic regret. It’s just that the necessary level of abstraction to meet 60s morality police standards makes the episode bizarre and memorable where in the 80s they could just talk about Data’s sex abilities, straight up

It was so weird watching an episode where the crew goes crazy that doesn't feature ten forward.

Are you saying that a shady dude lurking around a back alley in the fog in San Francisco is more clandestine than SKYNET shooting everything with a billion ships and black leather clad dominatrix Micheal Yeoh whipping an ensign with her riding crop on the bridge while she says sassy, inappropriate things directly into the camera?

I thought that was mirror universe Georgiou which makes slightly more sense, or does Discovery have S31 bring her over to the prime universe or something. Idk I haven't watched it I just read MA a bit.

Yeah, she was the mirror universe queen and they brought her to the prime universe. She wears a lot of black leather and gets invited to important meetings where she quips and says inappropriate things.

It would have been like if TNG had made that slutty Devil lady from that one episode a main character and had her sit next to Picard on the bridge.

The Naked Time actually wasn't that far into TOS either, though, and back then they weren't really expecting you to have seen all the other episodes first anyway. Naked Now just sucks in general.

Don't forget that after they wrote her off of Discovery, the crew then sit around the lounge and reminisce about all of the good times with her, which is crazy considering how awful she was to all of them

it's pretty horrifying georgiou ate some people but i wonder what the limits are on a replicator. Is human jerky something it can make, do you get automatically flagged if you show signs of a serial killer diet?

Picard def would have respected her cultural diversity to eat human jerky and then told the replicator to serve up burned replicated bird meat

Not having both (non mirror) Yeoh and Isaacs around as captains with totally different styles was a creative blunder from day one.

A disgraced officer taken in by a new mentor whilst still having to work with her former on some multi ship mission could have been interesting.

Just keeping evil Georgiou around was an even worse move.

I'm guessing it's because S31 serves as a way to make every bad Federation action "excuseable" by blaming it on a subversive secret cabal. Assassinate Gorkon? S31. Ally with the Son'a to steal magic youth radiation? S31 provided the holoship. The quests in STO that make no sense? S31! Omega Particle shenanigans? Protomatter in the Genesis Device? It was S31, James, the architect of all your pain!

Like you can have bad actors in the Federation without tying it to S31 who are so goddamn overused

I liked Georgiou, Michelle Yeoh brought enough charisma to make watching seasons 2 and 3 bearable and her ending was a decent couple of episodes. I wouldn't ever go back and watch them, but I'm going to see Everything Everywhere All At Once this weekend so I'm glad she's moved to much better things.

I like Yeoh too, but that was Uma Thurman in Batman and Robin bad. Going for over the top camp but just being irritating.

Her being killed off and replaced with a cartoon was one of many let downs.

It's basically on the "won't move forward until some of the already running stuff ends" backburner since they're already generating 50 episodes of content a year with what they have
