Found these interesting stats when I went to the LAT for news on the shooting:

https://www.latimes.com/california/story/2022-05-13/baby-formula-shortage-worsens-families-take-desperate-steps

Seems that Abbott should be incentivized to produce some safe formula given what's likely tens of billions of dollars in WIC contracts.

Yes, they are, but because line go up > all, they were not incentivized to actually maintain some goddamn standards of safety and purity at their factories, and shut one down 'out of an abundance of caution' after two salmonella deaths, which is corporate speak for 'oh gently caress oh gently caress we have no way of finding out what elements of this process are actually protected from contamination oh gently caress'.

This did not shut down all of the company's production lines (there are other factories), but it did shut down the whole company's production of an extremely hypoallergenic product line only produced by one other company. There are actual nationwide production shortages of this particular type of formula and the people who buy it don't have much in the way of alternatives.

The rest is down to panic buying; some people have two or three times what they need and some people have none. Formula is a perishable good and while some overages are expected, it's not reasonable to expect companies to produce two or three times the actual demanded amount of baby formula, most of which will go to waste.

The apparent manifesto espouses the “great replacement” conspiracy theory that falsely alleges Jews are working to replace white Americans with people of color. It also says Buffalo was targeted because it’s the city with the most Black residents that’s nearest to the author’s residence.

A security guard returned fire but the rounds didn't appear to penetrate the suspect's ballistic gear. The suspect returned fire and fatally shot the guard, officials said.

A senior law enforcement official said the suspect's parents are distraught and cooperating with authorities. They said their son recently and legally purchased the weapons, the official said.

Investigators are looking into where and how those weapons — a semiautomatic rifle, a hunting rifle and a shotgun — were purchased, the law enforcement official said.

The suspect appeared to have the N-word written or etched on one of the weapons, law enforcement sources said.

One firearm also had “Here’s your reparations” written on it, according to photos of the weapons that a law enforcement source confirmed belonged to the suspect.

Exploration is ill-advised.
Mass shooters have pretty much all been motivated by white supremacy, Nazism and conservative rhetoric going back to Columbine at least, and the media has been fully complicit in covering that up and blaming literally everything else, usually choosing scapegoats that reinforce right-wing narratives in the process. It's stochastic terrorism, implicitly endorsed and enabled by the state, media and police.

The leftist position is to provide for people's material needs so that society doesn't degrade to the point that it starts producing people like this.

It's the liberal position that in lieu of addressing material conditions we should instead wag our fingers at the fascists our broken society is producing and somehow shame them into not being fascist.

I implore the thread to move on and not make this about something that was already hashed out and settled in a dedicated thread

Yes, it does amount to not inviting fascists to dinner. Radical for Americans, I know, and part of the reason why you have such a problem with fascism.

And as the thread we engaged in already demonstrated exhaustively, I seem to know more about how things work in America then the people who claim things like idk. "No leftists live on urban areas" and stuff like that.

Nah, it's the actual leftist position to refuse to associate with fascists, normalizing their fascism and sending the message that fascism is an acceptable thing for anyone to engage in.

If that is the liberal position they are currently doing more about fascism in America then the left is, and that is pretty sad.

"This guy" being Donald Trump?

And since this thread is 99% already settled arguments ragging on liberals, I don't think the 1% ragging on you know, fascists is the priority thing to focus on. Since there are actually zero liberals here but plenty of people who think it is okay to hang out with fascists.

My plan is not about exclusively individual, though when people claim that individual actions have no effect on anything towards communal, it does have an interesting tangle with everything else they claim.

Cool, so they're accepting fascism as well? Generally that is my problem. It's other people demanding Biden not to associate with fascists while engaging in that themselves. Maybe he was friends with Storm? He was a colleague anyway, and as we know, telling fascists they're bad people when they are friends family or colleagues is useless finger wagging
