They work across both (Wii U too). Your balance is shared too if you have the same account on each.

Check if you can buy 3DS titles directly through the Nintendo eShop online, and if it works, the game will download while your 3DS is in Sleep Mode

I don't know that I ever linked my specific 3DS to my Nintendo account, even though my Nintendo Network ID is apparently connected and it knows how much money I have in my eShop wallet  Tried downloading a demo last night as a test and it never went through, is there something specific that I need to do to link them?

It sounds like you're set up, I guess make sure that your 3DS is connected to the internet while in Sleep Mode? Also check if you have the latest firmware, try turning it off and on again, etc

It's possible that you might have to update to a Nintendo Account (maybe the NNID is being sunsetted with the Wii U and 3DS)

I definitely have a Nintendo Account, and my profile shows it linked to my NNID. Going to have to play around with it some more I guess...

So, I tried reformatting a 128 GB card and copy/pasting the original I had into a laptop folder so I could copy/paste the “reformatted” (computer says it’s FAT32 but my not recognizing it) but the real problem is that my old 32 GB card’s data isn’t showing up at all on the 3DS, which includes the save backups or I wouldn’t really be that bothered.

Can anyone point me towards a guide on how to handle this situation? Or just advice if they’re fellow screwups on how they got out of this jam?

We're all going to experience changes in our life but only the best of us will qualify for front row seats.

Assuming you use custom firmware:
I don't know about save back-ups, but I used faketik when I did a system transfer to recognize titles on the microSD that had been installed but didn't show up.

I just simply looked one up on eBay. Unfortunately that was a while ago and I don't see any now. You'd probably just have to gamble on one of the Chinese sellers. Thankfully they're pretty cheap.

My 3DS is still pretty clean but I’ll keep it in mind, I was trying to change SD cards partly for firmware stuff anyway.

Speaking of, does anyone have recommendations for applications that they used to convert their cards successfully?

I think I just followed this guide https://en-americas-support.nintendo.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/309/~/how-to-transfer-data-between-sd-cards-or-microsd-cards, when I upgraded the SD card on 3ds when it was still stock.
I think the trick is to not use the built in windows formatter when using fat32 because it's kinda bad.

Entirely wrong.

It's been discussed several times. The official support ends at 32gb, at which point you either have to use a custom firmware formatter on the 3DS (someone made a tool for godmode because it's such a pain), or know what you're doing using Linux and setting the right filesystem parameters. Up to 32gb you can just use the card without reformatting it, or use the SD Association tool.

That guide doesn't have any information for cards above 32gb. Which isn't surprising.

Yes, but by the time I'm loving around with cluster sizes and checking partition alignment, we're past the point where it's easier to learn to use Linux for filesystem fuckery.

There are multiple tools that worked fine once upon a time and may still do so. Or they may not work past Windows 7, or they may be broken by any given Windows Update, aaand I have a dedicated Windows XP machine I never connect to the internet or update for the really grouchy tools.

Because that's literally impossible under Windows 10.

The Windows formatter - the one built into Windows - was changed in Windows 10 in a way where it can't format drives above 32gb as FAT32 anymore.

Some version of that tool was able to do it, but not the current one. This broke a bunch of other things too. That was the reason I went "gently caress it, time to learn to do this with Debian so it never ever changes".

Insert your SD card into your computer
If the SD card has any files and folders on it, copy everything to a folder on your computer
Run guiformat.exe
Select your SD card’s drive letter for “Drive”

Make sure you choose the correct drive letter, otherwise you might accidentally erase the wrong drive!

Select a size for “Allocation unit size”
If the SD card is 64GB, choose 32768
If the SD card is larger than 64GB, choose 65536
Enter anything for “Volume label”
Ensure that “Quick Format” is selected
Click “Start”
Click “OK”
Wait for the format to finish
Click “Close”
If the SD card had any files and folders on it before the format, copy everything back from your computer

You were the one without any homebrew weren't you though?

Which means it's, what, GBA titles that break in visible ways, and the remaining issues manifest as weird jitter?

The partition issues happen with emunand, and that formatter shouldn't create any alignment issues without partition issues (don't quote me on that, as far as I'm concerned it's yet another weird internet download people are going "trust me bro" about). And it boots and accesses the SD card, which wouldn't happen with every other problem on the list. It's not like the situation involves Chain of Memories.

Good news: You want to use a smaller SD card for that to minimize the chance of the SD card causing problems.

Hey at least it isn't the Wii, that one starts complaining about cards larger than 2gb if you're unlucky.

Well unless you're using a partition for NAND redirection.

Also the right cluster size depends on the card, and for some cards there is no right cluster size. You could do the legwork and figure out if a card works ahead of time by benchmarking random access speeds.

What will failed reads do to the firmware hacking process? Will hacking with a SDXC card cause more corrupt FAT issues? :iiam:

The questions are not important if you have the hardware for ntrboot, at least.

You're the only person I've seen with any of these issues. Like, use a third party app to format FAT32 with like a 32 bit cluster size and you should be good to go.

Like this is quite literally what I did with my 128 gb card. I did shell out the extra for a Nintendo branded one so maybe that's part of it.
