When Marge asked him how he was doing, he told her that it was his personal information and he was not at liberty to reveal it. He then invited them to see a film. Marge asked if it was "Iraqi journalists being murdered?" but Julian Assange told her not to be ridiculous as it was "an Afghan wedding being bombed". Homer then tells Julian Assange a "big secret", which was that he wasn't wearing any underwear. Julian Assange then tells Homer that he should get out less. He then went back into the WikiLeaks building, entering in the code "1234" to open the door, looking around shiftily as he entered the code and then entered the elevator.

Matt Groening asked casting director Bonita Pietila to get into contact with him, which she did. His lines were written by Kathy Lette and were recorded over the telephone from the UK, while he was under house arrest. lol

oh was about to ask if he voiced himself. https://simpsons.fandom.com/wiki/At_Long_Last_Leave 2012 Feb? So he would then go to the embassy Aug of that year. (and quickly annoy the Ecuador sooo much they evoke his wifi access and make him live in a broom closet) iirc this was when people still thought he was a good guy and not a Russian tool.

I was thinking about the poorly aged celebrity appearances thing a bit more and although I listed Blair from the UK episode, that episode also had JK Rowling who is probably a bit more applicable.

God, this was terrible. This reads like the bad banter between hosts during the Oscars. The flow of the conversation is so bad that it comes across like two people reciting lines at each other. The jokes are so obvious and corny. There's no punchline or great moment. A funnier ending would have been having him punch in this very complex passcode which is written on a post-it note by the pad, and then the camera reveals that the door was propped open all along. It's not the greatest comedic idea ever, but it at least takes more work. I go back to the Barry White cameo, and it really shows how well a cameo can work when it's integrated into the story. Barry White acts like a normal person encountering Springfield's madness, allowing for better comedy because it's not coming from a strict setup/punchline routine. The same thing with Leonard Nimoy in the monorail episode. You never feel like he's just there to be there, because the show puts him in the story and pokes fun at him. But this. It's just a template. Simpson - hello famous person. Famous person - replies in a manner related to why they are famous Simpson - What are you up to? Famous person - references something they are famous for in a slightly comedic way but doesn't make too much of a mockery. And make sure the famous person looks awesome in the end. Early Simpsons didn't try to make people look cool, nor did they poo poo on them either. They just used them as characters, and tried to make them part of the story. Or the jokes came from their reactions to events around them. My favorite celebrity cameo though was in Cheers, when they made a famous basketball player become obsessed with the number of bolts on a basketball court all because of some fact Cliff had to share.

Homelander just needs to learn the CEO move when someone asks you a specific question is to go "Well, what are my options" and then they explain them all to you and you pick one at random and blame someone below you for loving it up if it goes badly.

One of my favorite celebrity cameos not often talked about is Robert Goulet. The way he twirls the microphone around hitting Milhouse in the face after singing “Jingle Bells.” “Oh! I’m sorry, kid!” Also, “Your manager says for you to shut up!” “Vera said that?”

the problem with the episode is that grimey is too much of an rear end in a top hat for the audience to sympathize or relate to but its still a solid episode imo

i like it. and even liked it at the time as well! my only issue is that grimes financial situation was exaggerated mostly for comedic purposes but doesn't really make sense when you think about it. he got a job as a fairly high ranking employee at nuclear power plant. he should be able to afford an apartment better than where he was at without also having to do a part time job on top of it!

And why would you have a bowling alley two floors above another bowling alley? Makes no sense, too much competition in the neighborhood

Grimes was a petty rear end in a top hat who thought the world owed him something for nothing, and his jealousy of Homer and his life was unwarranted and nasty. gently caress Grimes. Although I do like how he wiped his hand on his pants before shaking hands when he first met Homer. That was a nice little touch.

Grimes is a great episode because of how dark it is and how much it commits to everything. The hero dog becoming vice president and barking at Grimes. How the existence of Homer drives him to insanity. The power plant contest where everyone is impressed with Homer. Part of what makes the episode work is that Homer just wants Frank to like him, so he actually tries to be professional. Frank was a moron who grabbed electrical equipment without proper safety equipment. After wasting Mr. Burns's precious acid.
