That doesn't sound very likely How would we even evaluate it? Fungi are closer to animals than plants, but if they are having deep thoughts we haven't been able to observe it. If there was sentience it would probably be in the mycelial network, not the fruiting bodies. A single network can persist for years and cover many miles. Most fruiting bodies (mushrooms) pop up, spread the spores, and then quickly die back.
