Willa Rogers posted:yeah, like they also press stated indies as "leaners" to one party or another (and those polls also show a p. even split of indies leaning gop & indies leaning dem). many states don’t register by party, but you can still lookup primary voting history (for Republicans and Democrats only) in those states but it’s not the same. I think the “independents are secret chuds” thing is more an artifact of polling measures than anything else. Once you’ve applied the narrowing filter of “likely voters” that very often just excludes the entirety of the other independent voters types you’re discussing. Plus the existing bias towards older, wealthier, and more conservative voters we know our current polling biases towards. Like if you didn’t vote in 2016 or 2020 and you somehow miraculously answer the phone when a pollster calls you won’t make it past the likely voter screen.

the democrats are definitely going to be destroyed in 2022 but what's distressing me is all the evidence piling up that they're doing it on purpose because they enjoy it

I kinda always figured they'd lose and also feel like poo poo about it but it's dawned on me that e.g. nancy pelosi will just laugh her rear end off, they way she does, down a couple pints of ice cream and collect a near-unanimous vote for minority leader from the democratic caucus

kevin mccarthy will pass a rule in the house that you can't say the word "abortion" and pelosi will bully half the caucus into voting for it. aoc will vote for it. then she'll do her kind of 80 year-old sarcastic rear end in a top hat act on anyone in the press who asks her about it

democrats have put in sustained, generational work to be this hated; you can't just walk into deserving getting destroyed, this much. But if you ever want to reach these heights, start betraying people and just making a human spectacle of pointlessness right now. The longest journey begins with a single step

I think there's also a phenomenon that whichever party is currently sucking the most rear end in public will see voters distance themselves from the party name, but they still vote for that party because, like, what else are they gonna do? Edit: What I mean is I expect independents to swing toward Democrats and this will be trumpeted by the remaining 10% that identify as Demoncrat.

skipped a load of pages to say: lmao the democrats are throwing trans people under the bus like I knew they eventually would this time five years ago not that it would win them the midterms, of course, because they were always hosed in the midterms, but they're responding to the current fascist moral panic against trans people by turning a big dial taht says "Transphobia" on it and constantly looking back at the audience for approval like a contestant on the price is right (it's not worth saying that you can't compromise with fascists because that just legitimises fascist beliefs, because the democrats are going to do it anyway lmaoooooooo) the world is hosed. I mean, no poo poo lmao, but seeing as the US is going to genocide the transes over the next decade, it's probably going to go from there to the rest of the queers, then the Muslims, the communists, the socialists, the trade unionists, the Jews, and in that time the rest of the world will become increasingly fashy, probably gently caress
