there was some late 19th or early 20th century mathematician, i forget who exactly, who said he explicitly worked on number theory because it's not useful for anything therefore it's not gonna be used in war or to hurt people or make the world a worse place in general cryptography's all based on number theory and by extension so is cryptocurrency and the massive waste of resources that accompany it. whoops
