Rustybear posted:i fuckin hate keith but if your immediate response to labour gaining a seat at a byelection for the first time in ten years and by double digits points is 'this is bad for keir' then you might have other motives than simply commenting on the situation It's not being gloomy for the sake of it: the swing was due much more to Tory voters staying at home than it was people being enthused to come out and vote Labour. The implication is: that with a new leader and a new approach, the Tories can bounce straight back at the next election, as Labour's weak lead evaporates once again.

However the main reasons for this loss were the complete collapse of the Labour vote/rise of the SNP in Scotland and the collapse of the Lib Dems being more beneficial to the Conservatives than Labour.

JeremoudCorbynejad posted:Qt audience members are some of the most brainwormed people I've ever seen, I swear to christ There was a guy at our CLP just after the last General who stood up and read a speech off a page of A4 he'd printed, yammering on about how Corbynism was dead and a return to the values of Tony Blair was the only sane choice and it was just like... a spool of unbroken words words words. This is the kind of person who goes on QT, the people who have OPINIONS that MUST BE SHARED. Doesn't matter if they're true, doesn't matter if anyone listens, just vomiting them out into the aether for no other reason than it's Their Right. Unhinged and pointless

Remember: the "Red Wall" falling to begin with was relatively few direct Labour->Tory switches, but Boris basically keeping all May's 2017 vote while Labour bled votes all over the place (Lib Dems, "Brexit Party", abstainers etc).

I have an important question about the strikes/picket lines. Are the workers singing union songs? Do the British unions have different union songs?

|
# ? Jun 24, 2022 14:10 |

There's a bunch of different songs, Chumbawumba of Tubthumping fame did an album of protest songs including my favourite: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OA4FTIz2Zrw

I mostly know the american ones, which are good if sometimes dated, though for a rail strike they are probably fairly apt.

Notes can be very helpful to keep you on track, though there's a way of using them while also speaking engagingly as if they weren't there. I find it very difficult to speak with none, my mind just races and my thoughts end up garbled and I sound pretty incoherent when I try, and that's even with a decent amount of experience. If I use notes however I usually get a decent response. Except on zoom, gently caress zoom. Conference talks over the internet are the devil's work. Genuinely wondering if I have undiagnosed ADHD given my working style tbh.
