Trump is an iron lung for a large swath of the Republican party's elected persons. Yes, he's keeping the Tiki torch lit, but I can't see any big movement one way or the other with regards to election results for as long as he's the face of the party. People point to the economy as the Democrats' undoing, but I'd point out how the economy was in a much better place in 2018 and the GOP couldn't keep the House. Now, if Trump is indited, all bets are off.

TipTow posted:Sorry to be that guy, could anyone give a rundown on what the gently caress happened today? I've been posting but also have enough poo poo to do at work I couldn't turn it on a feed and watch consistently So this will be long but unfortunately so many things went down that even just summarizing some of the more notable moments is going to be as gently caress: A major aide that was basically attached to the hip to Mark Meadows and Donald Trump testified revealing that Trump, Meadows, and a whole bunch of other people in the Trump admin and Republican party were basically all aboard on inciting an attack on the capital, presumably as part of the overall attempt to decertify the votes and send it up to the SCOTUS to give them an anti--democratic win. Said people who did this even knew ahead of time that they were bringing weapons in. In addition to that, Trump straight up wanted any methods of detecting anyone that was armed to the teeth (Some of them had body armor, helmets, guns, etc, etc. Others straight up weaponized stuff on site like turning flagpoles into spears.) removed, flying into a rage for and insisting that they weren't there to hurt "him" when confronted on site over this. Somehow it gets worse. This apparently wasn't enough for Trump, who didn't want to just organize an act of stochastic terrorism but was straight up trying to lead the group, later on openly admitting that he wanted Mike Pence to be hung by the throat when the crowd started chanting that they wanted to lynch him. It becomes apparent as the hearing goes on that Mark Meadows clearly was in on it or just didn't give a gently caress so long as it benefitted the Trump administration, only becoming neutral in the whole affair when a legal staffer flips out that people are about to be "loving murdered". Prior to that he insisted that Trump doesn't care and implicitly neither does he. At the point where it became apparent that it would probably also be his rear end on the line too he suddenly he went with the legal staffer to speak with Trump. Prior to this, before arriving at the white house the members of Trump's staff and the US government who weren't aware of what they were cooking up tried to move Trump to the white house along with complicit people that wanted to avoid legal responsibilities (In the days leading up to the failed insurrection the legal team and high ranking members of the administration straight up said that no one in the administration could go or it would lead to massive legal consequences/charges being levied against them due to knowing about the impending violence. Presumably so they could pull a "well, that's them, we didn't do anything!" stochastic terrorism if the insurrectionists succeeded in killing a sitting politician like they were clearly pretty eagerly hoping to do.) from...Y'know, starting an attempt to stochastically murder a sitting politician to gently caress with the vote. Instead of following their plans Trump insisted that he be taken to lead the crowd instead. And it gets worse from there. Trump wanted to lead the event, going with everyone to the capital. When his secret service agent/valet said that no, he had to take him back to the White House as he had been ordered to do Trump lost his poo poo and demanded to be taken to head up the crowd in a profanity laden rant. When the secret service staffer put his foot down and said that he was going to in fact follow orders and take Trump back to the White House Trump attacked the valet, attempting to seize the wheel while going for the man's throat. Obviously, since Trump is a morbidly obese pumpkin of a man and a secret service agent is a secret service agent this attempt at escaping the grasp of the secret service failed miserably. Trump was then forcibly delivered to the White House. Somehow, it got even worse from there. It became apparent that Trump had no intention of de-escalating, and straight up was lusting for Mike Pence's blood once he was forcibly escorted back to the white house. To leave out the intimate details (And it has to be said that all of this is just a minor summarization that leaves out a lot of the evidence and other damning stuff on the part of Trump and company that makes it clear that yes, they knew what was going on and yes Trump is a psychopath.) and shorten a summary that is already far too short to do it justice: Once forced to go to the White House Trump threw another violent tantrum, throwing white house dinner plates at the walls and forcing the valet (And the aide who testified.) to clean them up. He then outright said he wanted Mike Pence to be hung by the crowd and explicitly agreed with them chanting "hang Mike Pence" as things tipped over into violence. And just...Look, I can keep going but all the poo poo that was released (with corroborating testimony from the valet, data that was dug up during the investigation, and so much more I should add) would get a president locked up for life if it was a Democrat doing it. Just look up the full recording of the testimony, just putting this down here was an essay and a half and with all the other stuff that went down you're doing yourself a disservice by not watching it yourself. You're missing out on all sorts of wild and very heinous poo poo Trump and his associates got up too, like Michael Flynn going on camera and pleading the fifth when asked if he believes in a peaceful transfer of power. Even so, I can tell you now that somehow things managed to get even worse for Trump and his staff from there. At the end of a couple hours of highly damning testimony interspersed with transcripts and other evidence corroborating all of this and more the committee unleashed one final massive bombshell. They revealed the investigation was being tampered with by blatant mafia style intimidation tactics by the Trump administration. Who were straight up phoning witnesses to engage in open and unashamed "Well, it'd be a shame if our faith in your loyalty towards Trump proved to be false. You might be on the outs with us!" style intimidation and witness tampering tactics to pressure people to not tell the truth. This came with literal phone transcripts where the person (Whose name is currently not released, but they seem to have their identity on record.) straight up tries to influence the outcome of testimony on behalf of Donald Trump and the administration by pressuring them to be loyal to Trump over telling the truth. Through this, it became obvious that Cassidy was being escorted under guard and the method she's leaving the capital was intended to be secret. Meaning combined with the constant attempts to incite a chud to murder political opponents in the past by Trump and his associates along with the current witness intimidation attempts that were revealed today there is almost certainly a threat to her life going forwards. On one hand, republicans got their supreme court through Trump and thus he served their long-term goals, so their establishment can now afford to disown him. On the other hand, back in the day we thought live video footage of this dude bragging about committing sexual assault was gonna kill his campaign too, and they know he still grabs enough attention to win if he gets through the primaries. It's difficult to be optimistic.

We already know all the players and it's obvious he knew it was illegal, yadda yadda, but today is laughable incendiary fluff so far and it's a blast. Been mentioned before but they actually hired an ex-ABC Producer to put together hearings and it's clearly paying off in spades. Here's a good read on it. The Dems have really knocked these hearings out of the park. After decades of being completely oblivious to "shallow" concepts like PR, presentation, and messaging, wondering why they keep getting steamrolled and no one ever remembers the good things they've done, someone finally realized that when only 36% of your electorate can even name all three branches of government, messaging matters. Although, I also wouldn't be surprised if all these deft moves, like the ABC Producer and hitting the Republicans back with a surprise hearing right after the Abortion decision, are from Cheney on her Punisher revenge crusade showing them how it's done. -Blackadder- fucked around with this message at 21:14 on Jun 28, 2022 |

Looks like the chud go-to is just that Hutchinson is lying as evidenced by the fact that its completely implausible for Trump to grab the wheel because he's in the back seat (and she probably has a book deal or something). So more of the usual. I'm not going to get my hopes up for The Mattering to happen, even though this would be enough to put any president other than Trump in jail. Now, Bush's guys probably weren't the most super athletic frontline dudes because he had been long out of office at that point, and Hu's guys probably were both because he was the current president and you also like to put your best people forward on a road show, look tough for the foreign audiences and all, but the US guys weren't all that impressive looking in comparison.
