I've been listening to some hardcore lately and I keep thinking "this vocalist would be good in a thrash metal band". Then again, thrash and hardcore are pretty closely linked.

Despite the ongoing popularity of the big bands, the genre was basically dead by 2002. Most bands changed their style to buttrock or simply disbanded. I personally don't mind the genre since nu metal was my introduction to heavy music.

its bc they included a lot of the misoginy inherent in the 80s glam scene. A glam revival band that wants to be succesful and good should take all the good things about glam metal but leave the misoginy behind.

SP is more a parody than a pastiche/revival

Deftones got away from that quick after Around the Fur. Korn we’re always omega popular. Limp Bizkit we’re kind of nothing for a decade or more. And Linkin Park was easily digestible hard rock (I like Meteora and the Jay-Z collab).

Nu metal was dead.

Alien Ant Farm? Hed(PE)? Taproot? Snot? Etc etc.

Dead.

In fairness, it wasn't changing genre trends that led to Snot falling by the wayside. Which is a shame since they owned.

I was just going off bands I remembered quickly. No idea he died tragically.

Speaking of which, Municipal Waste's Electrified Brain is out today. It's a Waste album. I like it, but I like their discog too.

I have to admit I loved Korn when I was a teenager. And yeah, the first two or three Limp Bizkit records saw heavy rotation in my used 1989 Ford Taurus, with a diskman connected to the tape deck via one of those weird adaptors. There's something soothing about the fact that Korn is still around and making music that is quite identifiably Korn.

I don't think there is anything wrong with liking Korn back in the 90s. The worst of nu metal was the absolute flood of terrible interchangeable bands from like 1999 to 2003. Skrape, Cold, Dope, Aedema, etc. It stopped being a natural growth of music and turned into what most of us always hate more than anything, a slew of corporate creation bands that were only being shoved out onto tours and whatever because studio execs saw bad dyed hair and white guys with dreads as being "in"

there were good bands and good songs in there. I'll maintain that for all the jokes tossed at them Drowning Pool had way more talent than most of the other bands of the time and the singer dying was a drat shame.

The self titled Korn album is really good still and pretty heavy. No qualms listening to it loud. Just a pissed off guy making good metal.

Does Chaos AD count as nu metal?

Sepultura were pretty unique as a band that made legitimately awesome thrash / death albums, then did nu metal better than almost anyone else. Never mind the post Max period of course.
