A Fancy Hat posted:I have seen people on twitter unironically say that AEW has too many good matches and that they'll eventually "run out" of matches. Not even in terms of what they do on free TV, as if you should save certain PPV matches like you're squirreling money for a rainy day. Even like Meltzer and Alvarez have been saying this to some degree but their angle is more like "If EVERY match on the card is awesome then none of them will stand out!" but either way I'm not sure how you'd even resolve this issue. Like Tony should tell his wrestlers to go out and have mediocre matches on purpose?

It's very revealing that some of these E drones also only follow WWE through reading results and watching clips. They claim to be WWE fans but don't actually watch the whole product It's like right wingers just memorizing and regurgitating what they hear on AM talk radio

You just can't appreciate a PPV properly unless it's got a Big Show vs Kane cooldown match before the main event

Although I can understand the importance of a cooldown match, I'm also fine if said cooldown match is still super entertaining, just not quite as quickly paced. Forbidden Door was basically a perfect in-ring PPV and every match was good to great. It also helps that AEW puts out such a diverse in-ring product, so not every match feels the same. I much prefer this to when I still watched WWE and half the PPVs had one good match, a bunch of okay matches, and at least one infuriatingly bad match.

I disagree that every show must have specific standout matches. That seems like old WWE brain poo poo. "The opening match should get the crowd hype but not overshadow the sacred main event later" type thinking is very weird Giving the artists the freedom to do their work in the best way they know how is exactly how it should be done

Dude accidentally hit his head bumping for a dropkick. It sucks!! But it's also just a bad luck injury that could have happened to anybody in any match anywhere

I feel like some of these people are confusing the quality of a match with the tone of the match. Not every match can be the main event, but not every main event is the best thing on the card. There's such a thing as a perfect opener, a perfect semi-main, a perfect comic relief match, just as much as a perfect main event.

What are the general bad faith AEW critiques we see in this thread constantly? I feel like we could use a master list. - they're all ex WWE guys - they are all people The Casual Fan won't know - they bury New Japan - they put over New Japan too much - WHO IS THIS GUY I CAN'T USE GOOGLE - the crowd cheer too much and will cheer for ANYTHING - Jon Moxley is going back to WWE any day now - Flippy poo poo - "confusing" Tanahashi, KENTA, Okada with Yoshi Tatsu or Funaki - the roster isn't diverse enough - the roster is too diverse - the refs/fans/managers are trying to get themselves over - Orange Cassidy is a joke character and bad wrestler - "if you enjoy Sting then you MUST enjoy Goldberg or you're a hippocrite" - their matches are too violent! - their matches aren't violent enough! - there are too many good matches on free TV - they are in immediate danger of getting cancelled - no storylines - too many/not enough titles - Adam Cole has a terrible physique - they can't grow their audience - Disco Inferno/Mark Madden/Eric Bischoff/Vince Russo retweet - it killed NXT!!! - Flippy poo poo - Twinkle Toes, Olivier, Jelly Nutella, etc - hugging is wrong - Roman Reigns profile pic - Cody was bad but now he is good - *WWE wrestler replies/retweets something from an AEW wrestler "you better hope Vince doesn't see this" - Meltzer/Alvarez/Bixenspan/Something Awful are on the payroll

I'm a bit late for "it's bad for every match on a show to be good" chat but I had something of this experience with Revolution 2022. It was such a high-paced awesome show that I burned out part way through and had to watch a few of the matches again the next day because I couldn't remember anything about them other than they were awesome, particularly Moxley-Danielson. It was an intensity + pacing thing, while I was a bit tired that day, and I'm not going to assert by any means that it was a bad show, but I could have certainly used something like the NJPW USA show's Suzuki vs Ishii (fwiw one of my favourite matches of the year) about 2/3 to 3/4 of the way through just to give me a breather from the high energy that was going on otherwise.

I don't know if the problem with the pacing at Revolution 2022 was so much the good matches it was the one really bad one in the middle that killed all the energy.

That AEW created no one and they are all ex-WWE but further than your #1 The ones that claim Britt Baker and Kris Stat are WWE because they worked as jobbers once. Also extends to MJF getting shoved by Samoa Joe and Hangman as a paramedic. And for reasons still alien: their profile will include which EPL team they follow.
