It's an extremely common way to balance aoe edge cases in mmos, and even exists in pve in this game already. If it only went into effect over 5 targets it wouldn't change crystal conflict at all. I wouldn't be surprised if these changes were just bandaids until 6.2 though

The reason they didn't add an AoE cap in PVP is because it's a massive swing of the hammer with hugely unpredictable consequences for overall power and effectiveness. A 10% damage nerf and 20% DR buff are already highly impactful numeric changes on their own and are a much lighter touch with easier-to-model consequences if you have enough telemetry.

I mean, it also doesn't need to be 0 damage over the target cap, I think even something like 50% reduced over 5 targets would feel much less dumb. And that's also the way it works in pve

I have taken part in a pinch attack in Frontline where my Purgation hit like 10 players on both of the other teams. I once saved my team from their own stupidity on Shatter when they chased red team up the canyon to their spawn control point and I single-handedly stunned all 24 players in yellow team because they came up from behind us single-file

I routinely do top 10 damage, kills, and assists on WHM while also having a healing score higher than whoever top damage was, unless they were a SCH that got BH5 early. It's dumb

The current changes are 100% a band-aid. I didn't even realize role-based damage resistance and penalties were still a thing in Frontline, though I knew about the way being in second and last place made LB charge faster. They might not do AoE target caps or diminishing returns but they almost certainly have something more than this planned.

Rival wings seems to be a mode they care about the balance of more, for some reason??? So it does make sense that bringing that back might mean actually thinking about how non 5v5 pvp feels in ways more elaborate than uhhhh 10% less damage

I don't think anyone is saying there's literally no way to influence a match. Most of the commentary is related to balance, and balance being a concern obviously means people's choices influence the outcome. It's just that Frontlines is a 72-man mode. Your personal ability to change the outcome of a match is, well, on average 1/7th of what it is in the 10-man mode.

I guess I want to caution people to not become too invested in the outcome of a large scale 3-way FFA game mode, because that way madness lies.

Monday maintenence is usually long. Serber related maintenance is even longer so we get a full day maintenence to make sure cross data center stuff doesn't destroy the game.

The way I look at it, there are three major subtypes of Frontlines players. There's tryhards who call plays and strategies and try to organize people. There's people who want to win and who will follow a shotcaller but won't do that themselves. And there's roulette grinders who are just there for the experience and don't actually want to play Frontlines, who will just ignore the chat and charge into deathballs.

IMO, winning and losing is primarily based around the percentages of each type in each group. You can influence the outcome by changing what group you're in, but if half your group just wants to lose fast and collect their exp, then you're gonna have a bad time of things and that's just how it is.

I usually have an even spilt between 1st, 2nd, and 3rd.

Then again I also typically play more than one match a day so even things might just even out.

I definitely get dumped into Adders in FL way more than 1/3 of the time.

Whether or not I'm going to win a given FL match is about 90% dependent on whether somebody else immediately starts directing the horde via target locations in alliance chat. Just 90% since occasionally my team still loses anyway because another team was even better at following their leader.

Ew gross, gently caress that guy. I like hanging out in houses and chatting with catgirls too, I just miss all the big events because they're scheduled for either my nap or my dinner. Or on another data center (although that might not be a problem soon).

I mean, literally any night you can open up party finder and see a multitude of clubs that all have live twitch DJs. There are definitely clubs that are better than others though. And yes, at a lot of these clubs ERP/escorting is going on, but that's more on the fringes of everything. The best way to enjoy nightclubs is to get together in a party with a group of friends, everyone has some drinks, and you just hang out and dance and chat while listening to music.

It's always a little bit annoying when I read this, because in my experience Frontlines is the most influenceable out of the three PvP modes. I've seen plenty of matches pushed from 3rd place due to a good shot caller wrangling the team into key positions and keeping them aware of the battlefield with macros. Obviously it's not guaranteed - nothing about PvP is - but even in a match with no one taking charge you can help guide people by calling out situations like an incoming pincer from the other two teams.

It's fine if you don't want to - I don't, typically - but to not and then say there's no way to influence a match sucks rear end.

Fortunately this means that BLM is also basically never underpowered.

Even we've given up on queueing on borderland ruins days. It's a fail map
