Lol at thinking it mattered. The USA doesn’t build or maintain nukes because they’re expensive. They’re expensive because they’re a construction grift. In the USA the more we build of the same kind of nuclear plant the more expensive they get. It’s not those darn safety regulations, it’s not those darn NIMBYs, it’s the construction companies who are able to profit billions off the nuclear plant even if they fail to build it. They still get to charge regular people for nuclear power plants they fail to build, they even get a to profit off of their failures! So of course they grift it til it drops. Public opinion doesn’t really factor into it. If public opinion mattered we wouldn’t have let Mr Peabody carry the mountain away.

Why can't the plants be built for a fixed price? Olkiluoto 3 in Finland was fixed price. A private company bought the plant from Areva. Then if you get any cost overruns, the construction company pays for them. Not the customer. Also they demolished the Georgia Guidestones after the bombing, rip. Edit: lol "During the 2022 Georgia gubernatorial primaries, Republican candidate Kandiss Taylor made the destruction of the Guidestones a pillar of her platform. On her campaign website, she posted a video on Rumble explaining Executive Order #10, “Demolish the Satanic Georgia Guidestones.”" https://malcontentment.com/controversial-cold-war-inspired-georgia-guidestones-damaged-in-bombing/ Ihmemies has issued a correction as of 05:23 on Jul 7, 2022 |

Then if you get any cost overruns, the construction company pays for them. Not the customer. Because there are only a handful of us construction companies even capable of building a nuclear power plant and they’re too smart to fall for that. The revolving door system prevents that from happening. Besides, the direct customer (the power company) usually still gets their profit too. It is only the end consumers (humans) who end up eating the cost increases, even if the reactor isn’t built. Also I’m not so such that TVO was insulated from cost overruns on Olkiluoto 3: quote:The cost of the OL3 EPR project was initially estimated at Є3.2bn ($4bn), which increased almost threefold to Є9bn ($11bn). Getting ~$500 million off a ~$5 Billion overrun on a 13 year over-schedule project isn’t exactly heartening.
