Less than a year latter an ANC/SACP safehouse is raided, leading to the notorious Rivonia Trial that saw him & his comrades sentenced to life imprisonment by the Apartheid regime for effectively high treason.

It does seem like the family have been interdicted in their natural course of grief and mourning by a crusading bunch of christian lawyers. Assuming the parents are the patsies in the situation, what's the grift though? What agenda does it further for the christian legal centre? Their website says a load of pablum about supporting christians who take a stand, but what do they really gain if they are successful in forcing the state to keep the corpse of a child mechanically sustained indefinitely?

The law firm use this poo poo to raise money. There are plenty of people who'll buy into a narrative of 'communist NHS doctors and nurses laughing as they murder a healthy child'; if not en masse in the UK, then in the USA.
The more they can drag it out, the longer they have to raise money. And it actually works to their benefit if they end up roping in the UN or another multinational - the kind of people they target for fundraising think that the UN is run by the worst people imaginable, so if even they are willing to consider the case, just imagine how bad the NHS must be to want this child dead.

Of course, the money they raise doesn't go towards supporting children/young people. It goes towards lobbying 'christian' shitlords like Nadine Dorries to make it easier to harrass women going to abortion clinics, or for sponsored pieces in broadsheets to ask questions about why young women who use can access contraceptives have more sex than young women who don't respond to surveys about their sex life

I remember this happening in the 80s a few times. Trying to get to work from Epsom or Finchley to central London at the time depending where I was living. Every bus stop rammed with hundreds of people trying to get on the very few buses that were running.

We would personfully spend 4 hours getting to work, 2 hours standing around chatting to anyone else who made it in about our valiant journeys - complete waste of time bothering to go in but if you didn't go in, you didn't get paid - then leave early because it would be another 4 hours or more to get home again. Lots and lots of walking!

Didn't help that I had an A-Z that predated a lot of the major construction work in central London (the whole area around Liverpool St for example was completely different to what it is now - it was slummy and sleazy.) so got lost a few times!

This was way before people had internet or home computers etc. so WFH not possible. If you WFH during a strike are you strike breaking?

Honestly I genuinely find it difficult to tell trots and tankies apart even if theoretically they should be diametrically opposed because they are all extremely crackers and I can't tell what brand of crazy is endemic to which.

I'm not sure there's many religions that are actively pro dead kids, maybe the Spanish account of the Aztecs or those ones where the membership suddenly decreases by 90% when the comet arrives.

The problem here isn't even so much the directly religious aspect. If their kid died and they'd spent £50 grand renovating the local church to get him a front row seat you wouldn't hear about it outside the village magazine, if they'd blown their money on psychic mediums or joined a spiritualist sect you might hear about it one of those "pervert ghost nonced my dog" magazines. They could have remortgaged their house to construct a device to tear the veil and maybe got on a podcast.

Instead they got suckered in by a bunch of hyper-partisan lawyers who troll around looking for dead kid cases in order to build stories for their backers of health insurance companies and sex offenders to sell to suggestible grandmas and white nationalists.

Speaking of podcasts, Behind the Bastards had a good one on how the SBC (one among many) ended up like that:

Stalinism is socialism in one country (it's not national socialism mum), Trotskyism is internationalist but tends to end up as a galactic brain cluster around a couple of spiked on line level intellects.

I've yet to see a Labour official ever clarify why rich people would donate to Labour rather than the Tories.

Presumably, the explanation would be "...something something social conscience" which would be pretty funny on its own.
