Novara Media interviewed the head of the CWU (the guy outside the post office in that vid) last week who had hinted that he and Mick Lynch had been in discussions about a national coordinated plan.

This seems very savvy. It’s basically nudging towards a general strike but without saying as much, which will probably help gain some traction better than if they came out all guns blazing.

They want to nationalise all public services, increase public pay with inflation, increase the welfare state and tax business more. They have a few people with poo poo opinions on trans issues but as a party support self ID. If we are talking about the major parties people can actually name, is there a more left party at the moment? It's certainly not Labour.

Mega Comrade posted:The greens aren't as left as I'd like on a few things but in what world are they conservative? Scottish Greens. That's it. That's the only left party with any seats in the UK or regional parliaments. Well, Sinn Fein too but don't think they'd appreciate being called British for some reason. The E&W Greens have enough members who are right wing Greens, who care about the green belt and keeping the urbans out of their peaceable shires. A reactionary green politics.

Ripe for having a wicked entryism done on them tbh, if the left could get their poo poo together enough to organise it. Only about 50k members and some of them will already be at least somewhat comradely. If everyone who'd left Labour in the past two years joined the Greens instead we'd have outnumbered them three or four times over.

Greens are also anti-nuclear of any kind (including spiffy new thorium reactors) so I'm not sure they have the policies to fully address the climate catastrophe.

Well yeah but 100k new members could change that. They're better socialists (at least in terms of stated policy) than the Labour Party right now. Tbh it was a pretty close-run thing even in the Corbyn years. Four day week, UBI, nationalisation of rail, scrapping of tuition fees, higher top tax rate, gently caress off Trident, NATO and the war on drugs, etc. sebzilla fucked around with this message at 14:52 on Aug 8, 2022 |

They are well organised and have tried to force through policy a few times but so far have mostly failed, most well known was Sarhrar Ali running for leader last year, he came 3rd (out of 4 candidates). As a party though it's still one of the better ones, although I appreciate that's a low bar in English politics.

sebzilla posted:Well yeah but 100k new members could change that. This is really tough because, although you're right about them being better leftists, if they're successful it could just end up funding the full decommissioning of our existing plants plus the withdrawal of research and investment into future nuclear technologies. Their anti-nuclear stance has been a cornerstone of their policy for as long as they've existed, as far as I can tell, I'm not sure it would be easy to change. That said, I've now seen this but no idea if it's a separate organisation or a faction within the Greens: Greens for Nuclear Energy

I think it might well be, actually, since climate change is an emergency. At any rate, every Green I've talked to about it has become reluctantly pro-nuclear in recent years. That's not many people because I'm unsociable, but I am in the Green Party myself so I do meet others sometimes.
