yeah, many US employers provide zero paid sick days or vacation days. they often merely laugh at anyone who requests unpaid vacation time and pitch a fit if someone gets sick and has to take an unpaid sick day (and sometimes fire the person). they often require the sick person to find someone willing to switch shifts with them. reading about all these sane countries mandating paid vacation/sick time sounds downright utopic i cannot believe what i wrote it!
