I'm not speaking for anyone but myself, but the way I see it SA isn't the police and, frankly, we don't have the resources to do that. When you're talking about serious poo poo like this acting with imperfect information can have tragic consequences. Doxx'ing isn't even correct a bunch of the time. The wrong people get singled out all the time as being that loser hated mod or admin or shitposter. It's kind of funny when a doxxer slips on a banana peel and makes an rear end out of himself over his e-feelings or whatever, but that poo poo can get bad fast when it involves things like allegations of serious crimes. poo poo like the police showing up at some random totally unrelated person's house in the middle of the night is a real concern and can have truly tragic consequences.

This is a problem both on the level of it being wrong to endanger random strangers based on amateur detective work, and also a problem on the pragmatic level of how SA is affected. I doubt it would be healthy for the forums to be featured on CNN because some unrelated 3rd party got caught up in internet justice and a police confrontation went poorly.

I know it sucks to read about people doing lovely things online and everyone has the justifiable urge to do something about it RIGHT NOW, but the reality is that no one here has the tools at their disposal to do it properly, and not doing it properly can really gently caress things up for everyone involved.

If you see someone posting about something super hosed up report it, PM the mod for the forum and maybe even an admin, and leave it at that.

I totally agree with you that imperfect information can have tragic consequences which ultimately reflect on the forum, although I think there have also been cases where forums ignoring posts about people's ill intentions have also reflected badly on the forums involved. It's difficult to know whether a random poster is just being edgy, whether you're a fellow poster, a mod, or an admin - unless you know that person in real life. And if you do know that person in real life, it seems absurd to pass it off to a mod/admin when you're the one who has more complete information and is in a better position to intervene in some way.

Perhaps threads were people know each other in real life and many people in the thread have each other's contact details pose an unusual situation. I really don't know how common that is throughout SA as a whole.

If you think the right thing to do is to get involved in real life, fine, but keep it off the forum.

I came back to say that the people who are saying that we're trying to champion lgbt as the real reason the thread got nuked and not the porn posts are ignoring context of the forums at large. This is coming hot off the heels of KiwiFarms Ads (a site with a known lgbt bodycount) being allowed to actively advertise and seek new users for their doxx hunting site. Then this thread rolls around, and is largely populated by LGBT folk and exists entirely on its own island. What about dirty jokes that the vtubers make? I mean, we seemingly already had that answered but apparently dirty jokes are now unacceptable on SA? If I went to whatever subforum you go to to discuss stand up comedy would I get in trouble for discussing dirty jokes made by a stand up comedian? I guess I would? I genuinely don't know but before this whole debacle I thought that dirty jokes were ok on SA but I don't know anymore.

What if I post a stream reservation from a vtuber and later during said stream they say something over the line like a dirty joke? Would I get in trouble for that? I don't know.

The atmosphere of this thread, at least for me, is now like walking on eggshells, I don't know what I can say or do or what will cause the belt to come off and get me, or possibly others in the thread punished, it's just deeply unpleasant here now and that makes me really sad because this thread used to be a refuge for me.

I tried to bring this up with a mod, but so far they haven't responded, I don't know if they will or not but I've pretty much given up at this point.
