I came across this article series recently, which is a study of what generations recognise songs from what decades. It's interesting, because yeah "surely everyone knows that song!" doesn't necessarily cross generational lines.

It's also interesting to see how teenagers fare with songs from the 90s, considering that for folks who were teens in the 90s the equivalent would be songs from the 70s

I have mixed feelings about synthwave because it's a curious imitation of the stuff I liked when it was new, and I was young. Too much of it sounds like porno music or background music for local TV station ads, but now and then I'll come across one that's pretty darn good.
