There are Nen users everywhere. Many don't even know they're using it. Famous musicians, athletes, chefs, people with really well organized hard drives.

Not related to the current discussion, but I like that just “being super talented at a thing” often manifests as a Nen ability, because it usually means you were so passionate about the thing you become super humanly good at it and aren’t *just* better than everyone else. Speaking of specialist abilities, the Kurta Clan were all specialists, right? I assume they were all nen users at the very least since Uvogin actually remembered they were strong, but Kurapika doesn’t know poo poo about nen which seems off in that context.

I think it's reasonable to assume that when a Kurta goes red eyed there is an increase in aura just because we know emotions and mood can affect that. I don't know if they all were specialists though, If kurapika wasn't born a specialist than Emperor Time makes a bit more sense as his manifested ability because he desired to fight by himself and ET gives him max potential (with respect to his base conjurer stats) in all other categories. If ET is a kind of racial trait that also works because it's theorized that some characteristics of nen are hereditary like how all the Zoldyck family members with white hair are all transmuters but Illumi and Kalluto both appear to be manipulators.

I figure that if the Kurta were specialists they weren’t necessarily all specifically some variation of Emperor Time beyond triggering their specialist potential by going red eyed, and that Emperor Time was specifically Kurapika’s focus because of his singleminded shortsighted focus on power and went all in on the other categories instead of just being a master enhancer for his dolphin stand. As for Illumi/Kalluto I was under the impression that as a general rule your nen type was based on your personality* what with Hisoka’s explanation, plus it makes more sense imo that your innate ability to manipulate energy depends on the kind of person you are, and accordingly Killua takes more after Zeno/Silva in personality than the other two siblings (and iirc Piggy from what people have said) take after their mom. *also it balances Enhancers because “make thing more/better” is pretty terrifying if but not quite so much if they have the kind of personalities that limit their imagination to stuff like Big Bang Attack/Jajanken.

Hisoka mentions his explanation is like astrology so *shrug*

the kurta tribe were just regular people with a minor physical anomaly. maybe the rest of the kurta would also have changed nen types when their eyes turned red, maybe they would have specifically changed to specialists. who knows? they are dead, and if they had any knowledge of nen it died with them. but anyway, that's not the source of kurapika's power. his insane self-destructive choices are.

I am willing to hold the world's largest pity party for Togashi. Just put out 1 chapter. I don't care how sketchy or unfinished it is. Put out 1 chapter and I hold a parade in his honor. But until then... I will wait. As long as it takes.

Likely since it seems this volume will be a collection of the rest of the manga that’s been released so far (plus it’s the first new volume we’ve gotten in 4 years so that’s still something at least)
