Medals only weigh one down.

I was slow on the uptake for Age of Empires 4 because I loved 3 and didn't love 2 that much, but I am finally playing it now and am really enjoying myself. Finally getting to the point where just attack-moving is not sufficient for victory. It's funny as hell that every campaign mission (so far) starts with a live-action video of the location, so your epic scene-setting for London in like 1066 is... modern London, chock-full of cars :v:

Slower pace than COTW, more realistic in most aspects. Some launch bugs.

Hyper Light Drifter OST is a longstanding fave, extremely chill and lo-fi and paired extremely well with the game's environment design and cinematography.

Honorable mention to Warhammer 40k Mechanicus, whose soundtrack I can only describe as "monastic skrillex"

:nice:

To describe ffxiv in a word...

Filler.
Filler words inside filler dialogue inside filler cutscenes inside filler quests. Filler animations, filler tasks, filler filler

So much flavourless bread. But sometimes you happen upon a nice tuna sandwich. Then the next course is more bread

I have time so here's an impression of ffxiv:

Go to X and talk to A. Go to Y and talk to B. Go to Z and talk to A again. Go back to X and talk to C.
C says: "My word, PlayerName, apologies for the delay. We've been looking to expand our operations and mayhap failed to consider the costs."
PlayerName plays their Slow Surprised animation
"Over the years, I have often wondered, what would prevent the alliance of nations from breaching the aether wall. Now we have our answer, it seems."
C plays his Slow Nod animation
PlayerName plays their Slow Nod animation
"But do not let my folly sunder your trust in us. An adventurer is more than shadows. Much more, and then some."
C plays his Slow Thinking animation
"Ah, but you must be eager to speak to Cid. I will send word ahead of you. Pray return to Z and speak to the locals, as they might provide the directions that will lead us to A."
PlayerName plays their Slow Nod animation
PlayerName plays their Pumped Up animation
Quest complete!

I said it was bad but no one listened

Planescape setting is getting some 5th Edition material and now I'm dangerously hoping that this means they're thinking more about doing something with the setting in video games. Baldur's Gate 3 being tied into the Baldur's Gate: Descent into Avernus book as a prequel gives some potential. I may just also be working myself because my Spelljammer 5e book set that just arrived has rules for giant space hamsters and the monster manual expansion book is titled Boo's Astral Menagerie.

The Zoombinis remaster uses a more cartoony art style than the original game, like the original's glasses were realistic-looking with the pixels they had, but I can see why they went with it.

Last Call BBS, X'BPGH
God that was grueling. The puzzles pushed well past the limits of my mental RAM.

This was my first Zachtronics experience, do they always leave it to you to figure things out? I mean I ended up appreciating this approach, but the first few minutes were frustrating because I literally had no idea how to make anything happen. And it took till about the half way point for me to get all the intricacies of the rules and interface. But in retrospect it was really neat how organically I went from clueless to fairly proficient. The difficulty forces you to learn and adapt to progress. And it was pretty loving hard, at least for me.

Great art and concept too. Sometimes thinking about a puzzle less abstractly, as actually growing a fleshy construct, helped me in solving it. It was probably just me taking a fresh look at the problem, but still.
