I'm aggressively wrong about everything!

So I'm not an expert on the 'batshit insane drug trip' parts of the Bible, but my broad understanding of it is that the Antichrist is someone who's seen as a Christ figure while leading people to damnation, right?

I'm not saying that's what he is, but I am saying that if I had a checklist watching for exactly this sort of thing I feel like we'd be a worrying way down it.

The Beast, more specifically the Beast from the Sea (as opposed to the Beast from the Land AKA the False Prophet, who sadly usually gets ignored in bad Christian apocalypse fiction) is supposed to be among other thing superhumanly charismatic and charming, a natural leader who draws all but the supremely faithful to him, and seemingly has actual solutions to the world's problems.

I liked Will Smith. He didn't take himself too seriously so he was entertaining. He has (or had?) charisma.

Look at James Bond. Fans are tired of Daniel Craig. He takes himself too seriously. His movies are too depressing. (The writing is not great outside of Casino Royale). Pierre Brosan was fun. He kicked @$$ but he got all the chicks too.

"Dreams of My Father", where a Kenyan boy raised in Indonesia is magically born in Hawaii. He goes on to graduate from a prestigious university where no one can remember him while befriending real domestic terrorists. He then rises to a country's highest office and eventual multi-millionaire without ever performing honest work. Similar to "Being There" but without the profound insights of that book's protagonist.

Seriously though, while it's probably best labeled as Fantasy "Elric of Melnibone" by Michael Moorcock is a near-poetic masterpiece yet to be spoiled by bad translation to film. His "Behold the Man" is also excellent. Most of the works by Kurt Vonnegut, Phillip K. Dick, Nivens & Pournelle, Arthur C. Clarke, Isaac Asimov, Roger Zelazny, Robert Silverberg...so many others. Some think Michael Crichton was a hack but I always found his stories well written and entertaining. Good reading to you all!

There actually is no figure in the Bible called "the Antichrist," the word antichrist is more like a category of person who goes against the spirit of Christ. It's a bit vague, to be honest.

It is just that only one side, the liberal side, is actively fighting. The conservative side so far has a “tsk, tisk, bad boys”) reaction.

Eventually the conservative believers in The Constitution will wake up. What they will do is not certain, but it must happen soon or it will be too late.

When the corporations started getting on board and the raid on Trump’s home it was stage 2 of CW2.

Yes, there is a civil war, and the left is the instigator, planner, and manipulator of it. Sadly the feckless RINO’s in our government are too busy sitting on their hands to say or do anything about it. It’s almost a one sided war at this point.

One of the scary scary details rightwing media is playing up is how the perennially funds-starved IRS is finally doing some refurbishment/replacement for those agents who are armed (a fairly small proportion of IRS agents overall as I understand it).

It's not a thing. The IRS may hire as many as 80,000 *employees* consisting of maybe 10 percent agents (the majority being paper-pushers and the like, same as any large organization) and maybe 1 percent agents with guns.

This was spun by Republican lawmakers and conservative media as 80,000 IRS supersoldiers coming to bust down your door and audit you into an unmarked grave, well aware that none of their followers will check whether that's actually true.

Also the vast majority of those 80,000 employees are replacements for IRS employees that are going to retire in the next 5 years, which is something like half of all current stuff. It's really more like 20,000 extra people net.

I mean I have a master's degree in accounting, if they are going to give me a gun and let me gently caress up some Freepers I'll sign on.

Do the same for me but with the Federal Reserve and... uh... I guess gently caress them up over...

Hm... I know the Fed is a boogeyman for them, but honestly I can't imagine anything the Fed and individual Freepers would come to blow over.

The accursed fiat currency, the devil's lucre, unsupported by the noble lustre of gold, the prince of all metals.

Having a bachelor's degree and certain amount of accounting credits, depending on level, usually whole degree, is what is the requirement for IRS Criminal Investigation Special Agent.

If this is what I'm doing with my degree, I'm ok with that.

I mean they probably also think you have a large dragon/hydra in there with the heads of various democrats which sleeps on top of a pile of stolen taxpayer money but goldbuggery is a fairly common right wing quirk. Not honestly enormously sure why as it is capitalism that necessitates the expansion of the monetary supply, even if the gold standard is also not great for other reasons.

But then complaining about things that capitalism causes and blaming them on the socialist government is par for the course also on the right. Gold really does seem silly though, it being generally as useful as a paperweight unless you need to make circuitry. You can't eat it, it only has value if other people agree it does which, shocker, is also how fiat currency works.

Especially silly among doomsday preppers because what the gently caress am I going to do with a gold brick in the apocalypse other than brain someone with it?
