I think friction with the owners and only being around for a few seasons is fine of you actually came out of it with a balanced/better squad. I only really see modern managers being around for the short/medium term. I see conte quite differently now I have watched him at spurs for a while.

Granted I’m a goofball but I would trade one or two titles at a club with a history of sustained success for future sustained success. United is (was lol) kind of an institution so getting mercenary-rear end RVP a title is a little less important than positioning for continuing league and CL success. If SAF was any other type of manager (like an ancelotti) this is nbd, but he set himself up as an institution and had continuing influence over the entire club following his retirement, so yes this mess is partially his fault.

RVP was hardly a mercenary, this is coming from an Arsenal fan. He knew he was at the peak form of his life and that Arsenal were still short for winning a title, so he went there to win one and did just that. He was also very upset that SAF retired right after if you recall... and he was banished from United as soon as his form started to drop.

Conte took a poo poo Chelsea and had players like Batshuayi and Victor Moses flying. He’d have done a number at United. As Ninpo mentioned he does get upset about not having funds, but if he got Levy to release the cash, he might have gotten the Man U hierarchy to do likewise.

I know both Marsch and Radrizzani have said they are holding out for the perfect fit, but after spending last season without a starting striker for most of it I'd like them to maybe settle for a pretty decent fit before the window closes.
