We're back baby, and we're down a Ronald, a Tank, the Chilean version of Bad Boys, a squidward, and qualcuno che ha veramente rischiato la giocata. However, we are up a few Blegums, the prodigal voodoo son, a Gini Wini, a pornhub sponsored rapper and a Georgian who has more k's and v's in his name than an expertly written hash table (sorry). That's right motherfucker. Even after the Steven Zhang and the Agnelli's tried to deny "Bravo" Ante Rebic and Junior "the" Messias completely valid goals and the whole team valuable points Milan prevalied. Freed from Desire, Pioli's on Fire, Caaaalhanoglu figlio di puttaaana, etc etc etc. Don't watch this if you think Zlatan is cringe, but hell, it had me fired up. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6mxrVrU724k Big Ollie the Twix proved the haters wrong, Zlatan continued to be a thorn in everyone elses foot, even though he really didn't play that much, Kalulu became one of the smartest random acquisitions Milan has made, and Tonali proved himself to have an absolute cuore rossonero. Really the whole team was magnificent, from Florenzi acting like everyone's dad, Tatarusanu saving a crucial derby penalty, Kessie somehow playing what was ultimately a great season when he knew before it even started that he was leaving, Maignan making the loss of Donnarumma look like the best thing that happened to the team, the list goes on. poo poo, how could I forget team and league MVP Rafael Leao? Man's unbeatable on his day. Many fans are saying that Milan got lucky, that it's a Leicester level event, that the team was poo poo and everyone else lost more than Milan won, but I don't care. I campioni dell'Italia siamo noi. Lazio's Ciro Immobile led the scoring charts with 27 goals, followed by Dusan Vlahovic who split his 24 goals between Fiorentina and Juventus. Both of them will continue with their teams, an event that I feel hasn't happened in a while. Venezia, Genoa, and Cagliari were relegated as Salernitana, led by Davide Nicola, pulled off another Nicola trademark great escape. Speaking of, Lotito did sell the team to an Italian enterpreneur about 3/4 of the way through the season, who promptly attempted to shitcan Nicola after the season ended in typical Bussiness Strategy Man style, so I hope they get swiftly relegated this season once Nicola fucks off to save somebody else in January. Incredibly only 5 managers have been swapped out in the offseason, with Hellas's Igor Tudor being the most notable one. I hope they get relegated too! Anyway here's who is contesting the title this year Atalanta Bergamasca Calcio Home City Bergamo Manager: Giampiero Gasperini Notable players in: Lookman (forward, RB Leipzig) Notable players out: Miranchuk (midfielder, Torino), Pessina (midfielder, Monza) Trophies: Coppa Italia [1] 62/63 Last finish: 8th Atalanta really did not feel like the Atalanta of the past couple years last season. Losing Ilicic and Zapata to various injuries and personal issues did a number on them and Gasperini struggled to push his game plan on the opposition. They haven't really replaced either and I suspect Ilicic in particular may just retire. A couple of the nobody's they've signed might turn out to be good or this might just be the end of a cycle for them. Bologna Football Club 1909 Home City Bologna Manager: Sinisa Mihajlovic, probably more of his assistant due to his ongoing fight with cancer Notable players in: Cambiaso (defender, Juve) Notable players out: Hickey (fullback, Brentford), Theate (defender, Rennes), Santander (striker, Reggina) Trophies: Serie A [7] 24/25, 28/29, 35/36, 36/37, 38/39, 40/41, 63/64 Coppa Italia [2] 69/70, 73/74 Last finish: 13th Mihajlovic was out for most of the season though is various unofficial replacements did well enough to finish comfortably mid table. The most notable thing Bologna did on the pitch was to beat Inter due to an insane Radu own goal that effectively ended their challenge on Milan at the end of the season. Unione Sportiva Cremonese Home City Cremona Manager: Massimiliano Alvini Notable players in: Radu (Inter, goalkeeper), Okereke (striker, Venezia via Club Brugge), a dude named Pickel from Famalicao lol Notable players out: Carnesecchi (goalkeeper, Atalanta end loan), Fagioli (defender, Juventus end loan) Trophies: none at the top level Last finish: 2nd Serie B Cremona is a city mostly known in the (Italian) sports world as the seat of an important court that senteces dudes like Miccoli and Iaquinta to mafia related crimes and sometimes gets shitheads like Berlusconi and Lotito mad. It is actually a worldwide capital for instrument making; maybe the most famous of which are Stardivarius violins. Anyway the team finished second in Serie B only losing out to Lecce on a wild series of games in the last weeks of the season. They haven't really signed too many big names and Alvini isn't a big name coach so no idea what to expect from them. Empoli Football Club Home City Empoli Manager: Paolo Zanetti (not that Zanetti) Notable players in: Bud Spencer (striker, Genoa) Notable players out: Pinamonti (striker, Inter end loan) Trophies: none Last finish: 14th Empoli were a team that played in Serie A in the 2021-2022 season that finished 14th and hell, they may just do it again. Associazione Calcio Firenze Fiorentina Home City Firenze Manager: Vinny Italian Notable players in: Mandragora (midfielder, Juventus), Jovic (striker, Real Madrid), Gollini (goalkeeper, Atalanta via Spurs) Notable players out: Dragowski (goalkeeper, Spezia), Torreira (midfielder, Galatasaray via Arsenal), Callejon (forward, Granada) Trophies: Serie A [2] 55/56, 68/69 Coppa Italia [6] 39/40, 60/61, 65/66, 74/75, 95/96, 00/01 Cup Winners Cup [1] 60/61 Last finish: 7th Fiorentina had what I would certainly consider a good enough season, especially considering the opposition. They're back in Europe (conference league) after a bit and Italiano is staying put, providing some consistency. In addition to signing Jovic, they managed to keep Milenkovic, who was widely expected to leave. Big Rocco Commisso tried to have a meltdown mid season and I think even threatened to sell the team but he seems to have calmed down a bit. This should be a good season for them but a lot hinges on getting the absolute most out of the their players. No half assing it like the bigger teams can afford. Football Club Internazionale Milano Home City Milano Manager: Simone Inzaghi Notable players in: Lukaku (striker, Chelsea), Onana (goalkeeper, Ajax), Mkhitaryan (midfielder, Roma) Notable players out: Perisic (midfielder, Spurs), Vidal (midfielder, Flamengo), Sanchez (forward, Marseille), Sensi (midfielder, Monza), Ranocchia (defender, Monza) Trophies: Serie A [18] 1909/10, 19/20, 29/30, 37/38, 39/40, 52/53, 53/54, 62/63, 64/65, 65/66, 70/71, 79/80, 88/89, 05/06, 06/07, 07/08, 08/09 09/10, 20/21 Coppa Italia [7] 38/39, 77/78, 81/82, 04/05, 05/06, 09/10, 10/11, 21/22 European Cup/Champions League [3] 63/64, 64/65, 09/10 UEFA Cup/Europa League [3] 90/91, 93/94, 97/98 Last finish: 2nd Owned bitch lol, going sobbing back to Lukaku to fix it. I hope him and Calhanoglu knock each other out in training while going for the same ball. SPIASSE. Juventus Football Club Home City Torino Manager: Max "dai dai dai" Allegri Notable players in: Opti Poba (midfielder, Pooshited), Bremer (defender, Torino), Kostic (midfielder, Eintracht Frankfurt) Notable players out: Ronald (forward, Pooshited), Chiellini (defender, Chivas USA the sequel), Bernardeschi (foward, Toronto), De Ligt (defender, Bayern Monaco di Bavaria), Ramsey (midfielder, 69) Trophies: Serie A [30] 1905, 25/26, 30/31, 31/32, 32/33, 33/34, 34/35, 49/50, 51/52, 57/58, 59/60, 60/61, 66/67, 71/72, 72/73, 74/75, 76/77, 77/78, 80/81, 81/82, 83/84, 85/86, 94/95, 96/97, 97/98, 01/02, 02/03, 11/12, 12/13, 13/14, 14/15, 15/16, 16/17, 17/18, 18/19 Coppa Italia [10] 37/38, 41/42, 58/59, 64/65, 78/79, 82/83, 89/90, 94/95, 14/15, 15/16, 16/17, 20/21 European Cup/Champions League [2] 84/85, 95/96 Cup Winners Cup [1] 83/84 UEFA Cup/Europa League [3] 76/77, 89/90, 92/93 Last finish: 4th Juventus once again barely scraped fourth place mostly because Sarri's nicotine addled brain relied entirely on national pariah Ciro Immobile to win penalties and convert them, and unlike some of the absolute galaxy brain superstars on the national team he can actually do it most of the time. I think Allegri has been found out and the Agnelli's are going to spend years trying to recover from what was ultimately a financial disaster of signing Ronaldo. All that said, Kostic should ideally provide something in an otherwise fairly woeful midfield and Bremer was one of if not the best midfielder in the league last year. Vlahovic has had plenty of time to settle in and I expect he'll be doing his Fiorentina best this season. Societa Sportiva Lazio Home City Roma Manager: Maurizio Sarri Notable players in: Romagnoli (defender, Milan) Notable players out: Strakosha (goalkeeper, Brentford), Luizi Felipe (defender, Betis) Trophies: Serie A [2] 73/74, 99/00 Coppa Italia [5] 1958, 97/98, 99/00, 03/04, 08/09, 12/13, 18/19 Cup Winners Cup [1] 99/98 Last finish: 5th The papers seem to think that Lazio has had one of the best transfer seasons in the league but I honestly have no idea who half these players even are. Maybe I'm not paying attention any more, but it's also possible Sarri has demanded a bunch of horrendous shithouses to play his weird style of defensive football consisting of one defender and 10000 midfielders. They signed Romagnoli from Milan, who has since finally admitted that it has always been his desire to play for Lazio, and for once this actually seems to be the truth. I wish him the best, tbh. I'm not sure what Sarri is going to do in the Europa League, despite having won it before; Lotito is the kind of idiot who tells him to play the children so he can focus on losing derby matches to Mourinho. Unione Sportiva Lecce Home City Lecce Manager: Marco Baroni Notable players in: Di Francesco (striker, SPAL), Frabotta (defender, Juventus), Notable players out: a lot of guys who never really made it to the first team of bigger clubs Trophies: Serie A [9] 1897/98; 1898/99; 1899/1900; 1901/02; 1902/03; 1903/04; 1914/15; 1922/34 1923/24 Coppa Italia [1] 36/37 Last finish: Serie B winners Lecce won Serie B last season late on after Monza hosed about too much, Pisa shat the bed and Cremonese made a last minute push. Lecce are no strangers to Serie A and have one of those cavernous Italian stadiums filled with a lot of people who really care, so it should be a good start to the season until they go 12 games without a win and the only people left are tourists who couldn't get in to that restaurant where they guy serves foam out of a mold of his mouth (or was that Bari?). Anyway they signed some players that may actually be ok so we'll see. Associazione Calcio Milan Home City Milano Manager: Stefano Pioli Notable players in: Origi (striker, Liverpool), Adli (midfielder, Bordeaux), De Ketelaere (midfielder, Club Brugge) Notable players out: Kessie (midfielder, Barcelona), Romagnoli (defender, Lazio) Trophies: Serie A [18] 1901, 1906, 1907, 50/51, 54/55, 56/57, 58/59, 61/62, 67/68, 78/79, 87/88, 91/92, 92/93, 93/94, 95/96, 98/99, 03/04, 10/11, 21/22 Coppa Italia [5] 66/67, 71/72, 72/73, 76/77, 02/03 European Cup/Champions Leage [7] 62/63, 68/69, 88/89, 89/90, 93/94, 02/03, 06/07 Cup Winners Cup [2] 67/68, 72/73 Last finish: 1st Stefano Pioli pulled every last bit of culo out of his...culo to win the title last year despite also suffering some absolutely appalling decision making throughout the season and having nearly every starting player out at one point or another. Like I said earlier nearly every player contributed something important and it was absolutely a team title. Ibrahimovic is of course injured for entire first half of the season but I imagine he'll be good for a game winner or two in the latter half after the World Cup. Origi seems like the kind of striker who was overshadowed by genuine world class talent at Liverpool but when he was on he made the most of it. I hope that translates to lots of goals, and I hope the Blegum contingent works well. It's not the greatest transfer season, especially for a team hoping to repeat the title but Pioli has the respect of the players and a system that works. Associazione Calcio Monza Home City Monza Manager: Giovanni Stroppa Notable players in: Ranocchia (defender, Inter), Cragno (goalkeeper, Cagliari), Sensi (midfielder, Inter), Pessina (midfielder, Atalanta), Caprari (striker, Hellas), Petagna (striker, Napoli), Pablo Mari (defender, Arsenal) Notable players out: none Trophies: none Last finish: Serie B playoff winners Monza will be playing in their first ever Serie A season. Our old friend Berlusconi is back and he brought Il Condor Galliani with him, which is why that players in section actually looks like a mid table Serie A team already. Monza nearly didn't make it here, having poo poo themselves for the automatic promtion spots but managing to win the playoffs. The world is a disaster so guys like Silvio are always going to come out on top; I expect Monza to not only escape relegation but to beat a few big teams while doing it. And hell, I expect that they'll probably gift Milan a few points. The question is whether Stroppa will be able to put a working unit out of all those players. Societa Sportiva Calcio Napoli Home City Napoli Manager: WaLuciano Spalletti Notable players in: Kvaratskhelia (striker, Dinamo Batumi, this guy is supposedly hot poo poo and seemed good in the preseason), Kim Min Jae (defender Fenerbahce), Sirigu (goalkeeper, Genoa) Notable players out: Insigne (striker, Toronto), Mertens (midfielder, Galatasaray), Ospina (goalkeeper, Al-Nassr), Koulibaly (defender, Chelsea) Trophies: Serie A [2] 86/86, 89/90 Coppa Italia [4] 61/62, 75/76, 86/87, 11/12, 13/14 UEFA Cup/Europa Leage [1] 88/89 Last finish: 3rd Napolol does it again, title contenders for some time and then just absolutely imploded for no reason. 3rd is still a good finish but I expect that Napoli fans are either stockholm syndrome'd in to expecting this (this is what's happening) or they are all fuming. The outgoing transfers seem incredibly bad and the incoming ones are somewhat unknown, though promising. I think Juve and Napoli will be fighting it out after the Milanese clubs, but maybe losing so many important players will be good for the team in that they have nobody to really rely on to get them out of a problem. Associazione Sportiva Roma Home City Roma Manager: Jose fuckin Mourinho Notable players in: Matic (midfielder, Manchester United), Dybala (forward, Juventus), Wijnaldum (midfielder, PSG) Notable players out: Under (striker, Marseille), Pau Lopez (keeper, Marseille), Veretout (midfielder, Marseille, the gently caress is this the Marseille supermarket), Trophies: Serie A [3] 41/42, 82/83, 00/01 Coppa Italia [9] 63/64, 68/69, 79/80, 80/81, 83/84, 85/86, 90/91, 06/07, 07/08 Conference League: 21/22 Last finish: 6th Roma's big accomplishment last season was winning the first edition of the Conference league and finally putting their name on the European trophy map. Abraham was probably the breakout star for the team, scoring a ton and assisting a ton more. Signing Dybala was seen as a coup considering that he's probably good enough to go anywhere in the league, and lots of places outside of it. Mourinho hasn't quite had his total meltdown yet but I'm looking forward to him having it especailly now that he's signed a few really good players. Unione Sportiva Salernitana 1919 Home City Salerno Manager: David Nicola Notable players in: Candreva (midfielder, Sampdoria) Notable players out: Verdi (striker, Torino, end loan), Ederson (midfielder, Atalanta) Trophies: none Last finish: 17th Lotito finally managed to sell the team to a local hustler who started the equivalent of University of Phoenix for Italy. The team has basically been reconstructed over the offseason after barely staying in the league but I couldn't tell you how many of the players are any good. Candreva might be doing his last season in pro football here. It'll be another fight to the death to stay up, I'm guessing. Unione Calcio Sampdoria Home City Genova Manager: Marco Giampaolo Notable players in: none Notable players out: Giovinco (forward, a little house in the corner of a busy industrial kitchen), Yoshida (defender, Schalke), Ekdal (midfielder, Spezia), Thorsby (midfielder, Union Berlin), Torregrossa (striker, Pisa), Candreva (midfielder, Salernitana), Damsgaard (midfielder, Brentford) Trophies: Serie A [1] 90/91 Coppa Italia [4] 84/85, 87/88, 88/89, 93/94 Cup Winners Cup [1] 89/90 Last finish: 15th Just looking at that players out list is enough to make you wonder how the gently caress they finished in 15th. Well, have a look at the manager. The man is still pretending to know what he's doing and new owner Marco Lanna is still falling for it. Oh you didn't hear? Massimo Ferrero was arrested in December and is on trial for a billion crimes. Unione Sportivo Sassuolo Calcio Home City Sassuolo Manager: Alessio Dionisi Notable players in: Piamonti (striker, Inter) Notable players out: Scamacca (striker, West Ham) Trophies: None at the top level Last finish: 11th Sassuolo's biggest moves last year were probably lighting the careers of Scamacca, who is gone, and Raspadori, who is probably going to Napoli. It was a disappointing season, especially for INTER FANS WHEN THEY GOT CRUSHED IN THE LAST GAME OF THE SEASON BY MILAN LOL. Anyway they still have plenty of decent players but will probably finish in a similar spot. Don't think they're going ot spend teh Scamacca money on anyone big. Spezia Calcio Home City La Spezia Manager: Luca "John" Gotti Notable players in: Maldini the lesser (midfielder/forward, Milan), Ekdal (midfielder, Sampdoria), Caldara (defender, Venezia), Dragowski (keeper, Fiorentina) Notable players out: Provedel (keeper, Lazio) Trophies: Honorary League title in 1944 (look this up, it's an interesting story) Last finish: 16th Spezia's notable achievement was robbing Junior Messias of a totally fine goal to pull a draw against Milan. Actually this wasn't their fault at all, but that's what I'll remember them for. Oh, and firing Thiago Motta, the smug oval office. gently caress Thiago Motta. Torino Football Club Home City Torino Manager: Ivan Juric Notable players in: Miranchuk (midfielder, Atalanta), Vlasic (midfielder, West Ham) Notable players out: Belotti (striker, teamless somehow), Bremer (defender, Juventus) Trophies: Serie A [7] 27/28, 42/43, 45/46, 46/47, 47/48, 48/49, 75/76 Coppa Italia [5] 35/36, 42/43, 67/68, 70/71, 92/93 Last finish: 10th Ivan Juric performed a bit of a miracle keeping Torino this high and is looking good other than losing Bremer (which is a big loss). There are plenty of good players on this team and the adition of Miranchuk should at least provide some mobility in midfield/attacking third. Not sure Sanabria is up to the task of starting over Belotti but who knows, maybe he just needed someone to get out of the way. Udinese Calcio Home City Udine Manager: Andrea Sottil Notable players in: like 10000 guys nobody has ever seen play once Notable players out: See above Trophies: None at the top level Last finish: 12th Not good, not bad, could be better. I don't have a lot to say here I'm tired and Udinese are a far cry from being the exciting weirdos they were 8 or 9 years ago or whatever it was. Where can I watch? In North America I think everything is on Paramount+. They have what I would consider a decent commentary team for America; they are at least enthusiastic and what they lack in professionalism they have gen z oddity to spare. What should I read? La Gazzetta Dello Sport: Italian sports daily with an English language site that’s been getting better over the years. Most of their news is reliable, if a little later than twitter. Football Italia: A English language site covering Italian football that updates constantly. Good English language coverage; the writers have started to show their allegiances over the years. transfermarkt.it: A gigantic real life transfer database, the .it version is in Italian and covers Serie A on the first page, but if you go to the bottom there's a .co.uk version that's in English. Who should I follow on twitter/facebook The league itself actually has a very good social media presence, and they post all the time. They post a lot of good pictures and announce important things pretty quickly. They have a great youtube presence as well; lots of old matches and weekly highlights/interviews in English as well as Italian. Tancredi Palmeri is a multilingual journalist who is mostly worth following during the transfer season for entertainment only; he’s mostly full of poo poo but every now and then he tells a good story about a player or a manager and such. Gianluca Di Marzio is another good journalist who’s more serious than Palmeri and also has an English section on his website. He’s usually very reliable. OptaPaolo for stat dorks Calciatori Brutti, literally “ugly footballers”, is a pretty funny account that tweets a lot of humorous Italian sports things, usually about football. Every now and then they’re serious too. A good twitter account. Instagram as well. Italian football TV English language guys that have a podcast but also post a lot and generally are funny. Good for media like videos, pictures etc. They have a good insta too. The one dude Marco is on Paramount. He's the obvious child of the bunch and is a secret Juve fan, you can tell. Roma’s English language account is really good even if you’re not a Roma fan. They’re what everyone else’s social media team wants to be. Other teams have added English twitter accounts but none are as good as Roma's. Venezia's is good but you know, Serie B. I will forever lol at the time they told ESPN to gently caress off when they caught them doctoring their kit photos. Have you seen their kits? They're good. What to post about in this thread Serie A, Serie B, all of the Serie C gironi and Serie D if you are a sadist. You can also talk about the national team, who are current European Champions, or topics related to Italy in general, but lets stick mostly to football. Supercoppa? I think this is in one of the oil countries again who loving cares. Miscellaneous Important Things that are a compelte copy from teh last thread In conclusion, as always https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=odZeT8T88f8 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jIGJwz8OFPI Post your best pics from last season! Looking forward to Juve’s new and improved midfield! McKennie can get forward into the box, Pogba looks legit happy and that’s always a good sign, and then Locatelli should be freed up from having to just sit at the base of the midfield. Plus there’s Kostic who can play left so Pogba can just kind of roam. Finally gonna trade Arthur and his dribbling in tiny circles. Yup, things are coming up Juve. Gonna be another struggle for fourth, huh? I love that berlusconi gif though. Gigi Galli posted:Here's a few from discord (come to the discord we be chattin) This was funnier before it was true. Fantastic op as usual. Some comments that popped into my mind as I read it: Gigio leaving definitely ended up being a blessing for Milan, Maignan owns. Cremonese’s badge looks like it should belong to a Croatian or Serbian club that gets knocked out in the CL qualifying rounds. Bud Spencer is a name that shouldn’t belong to a striker playing in Italy, more like a teenage American football player from a 1960s sitcom. Missed the most notable Juve signing, Angelito will give 69 assists to Big Dusan this season. CDK looks like a blond 12 year old Kaka. lol I thought exactly the same while reading Monza’s list of players in, lots of proven mid tier veterans. I think Napolol won’t be a contender this timing, won’t recover yet from losing arguably their 3 best players. Samp looking fire on paper and might be relegation contenders. gently caress Hellas hopefully they finally go to B And finally don’t forget the best twitter account https://twitter.com/realdonagnelli/status/1556985819063361536?s=21&t=0aLXZm6Oe2rYbP5Fh7yVdQ

I also need a link to join the discord. Milan looked good going forward in highlights this weekend. First opening day I’ve missed live in my memory but oh well

yeah there's a reason why the 2006 french team wasn't really mad at zidane, most of them had played against marco before and probably wished they had done it

2 points pissed away for Milan I think. Atalanta weren’t that good but Milan couldn’t finish for poo poo. Tonali was not up to his standards today. Musso really only made one save that I can remember and it was against him. Im not sure what Pioli is trying to do playing Giroud and Origi at the same time. Let one of them be the threat and put another creative player on. If he wants to play two strikers at least make Rebic one of them; he’s a capable enough wide player.
