Man's unbeatable on his day. Many fans are saying that Milan got lucky, that it's a Leicester level event, that the team was poo poo and everyone else lost more than Milan won, but I don't care. I campioni dell'Italia siamo noi. Lazio's Ciro Immobile led the scoring charts with 27 goals, followed by Dusan Vlahovic who split his 24 goals between Fiorentina and Juventus. Both of them will continue with their teams, an event that I feel hasn't happened in a while. Venezia, Genoa, and Cagliari were relegated as Salernitana, led by Davide Nicola, pulled off another Nicola trademark great escape. Speaking of, Lotito did sell the team to an Italian enterpreneur about 3/4 of the way through the season, who promptly attempted to shitcan Nicola after the season ended in typical Bussiness Strategy Man style, so I hope they get swiftly relegated this season once Nicola fucks off to save somebody else in January. Incredibly only 5 managers have been swapped out in the offseason, with Hellas's Igor Tudor being the most notable one. I hope they get relegated too! Anyway here's who is contesting the title this year  Atalanta Bergamasca Calcio Home City Bergamo Manager: Giampiero Gasperini Notable players in: Lookman (forward, RB Leipzig) Notable players out: Miranchuk (midfielder, Torino), Pessina (midfielder, Monza) Trophies: Coppa Italia [1] 62/63 Last finish: 8th Atalanta really did not feel like the Atalanta of the past couple years last season. Losing Ilicic and Zapata to various injuries and personal issues did a number on them and Gasperini struggled to push his game plan on the opposition. They haven't really replaced either and I suspect Ilicic in particular may just retire. A couple of the nobody's they've signed might turn out to be good or this might just be the end of a cycle for them. Anyway the team finished second in Serie B only losing out to Lecce on a wild series of games in the last weeks of the season. They haven't really signed too many big names and Alvini isn't a big name coach so no idea what to expect from them. They're back in Europe (conference league) after a bit and Italiano is staying put, providing some consistency. In addition to signing Jovic, they managed to keep Milenkovic, who was widely expected to leave. Big Rocco Commisso tried to have a meltdown mid season and I think even threatened to sell the team but he seems to have calmed down a bit. This should be a good season for them but a lot hinges on getting the absolute most out of the their players. No half assing it like the bigger teams can afford. All that said, Kostic should ideally provide something in an otherwise fairly woeful midfield and Bremer was one of if not the best midfielder in the league last year. Vlahovic has had plenty of time to settle in and I expect he'll be doing his Fiorentina best this season. They signed Romagnoli from Milan, who has since finally admitted that it has always been his desire to play for Lazio, and for once this actually seems to be the truth. I wish him the best, tbh. I'm not sure what Sarri is going to do in the Europa League, despite having won it before; Lotito is the kind of idiot who tells him to play the children so he can focus on losing derby matches to Mourinho. Lecce are no strangers to Serie A and have one of those cavernous Italian stadiums filled with a lot of people who really care, so it should be a good start to the season until they go 12 games without a win and the only people left are tourists who couldn't get in to that restaurant where they guy serves foam out of a mold of his mouth (or was that Bari?). Anyway they signed some players that may actually be ok so we'll see. Ibrahimovic is of course injured for entire first half of the season but I imagine he'll be good for a game winner or two in the latter half after the World Cup. Origi seems like the kind of striker who was overshadowed by genuine world class talent at Liverpool but when he was on he made the most of it. I hope that translates to lots of goals, and I hope the Blegum contingent works well. It's not the greatest transfer season, especially for a team hoping to repeat the title but Pioli has the respect of the players and a system that works. Our old friend Berlusconi is back and he brought Il Condor Galliani with him, which is why that players in section actually looks like a mid table Serie A team already. Monza nearly didn't make it here, having poo poo themselves for the automatic promtion spots but managing to win the playoffs. The world is a disaster so guys like Silvio are always going to come out on top; I expect Monza to not only escape relegation but to beat a few big teams while doing it. And hell, I expect that they'll probably gift Milan a few points. The question is whether Stroppa will be able to put a working unit out of all those players. The outgoing transfers seem incredibly bad and the incoming ones are somewhat unknown, though promising. I think Juve and Napoli will be fighting it out after the Milanese clubs, but maybe losing so many important players will be good for the team in that they have nobody to really rely on to get them out of a problem. Not sure Sanabria is up to the task of starting over Belotti but who knows, maybe he just needed someone to get out of the way. Good English language coverage; the writers have started to show their allegiances over the years. transfermarkt.it: A gigantic real life transfer database, the .it version is in Italian and covers Serie A on the first page, but if you go to the bottom there's a .co.uk version that's in English. Who should I follow on twitter/facebook The league itself actually has a very good social media presence, and they post all the time. They post a lot of good pictures and announce important things pretty quickly. They have a great youtube presence as well; lots of old matches and weekly highlights/interviews in English as well as Italian. Tancredi Palmeri is a multilingual journalist who is mostly worth following during the transfer season for entertainment only; he’s mostly full of poo poo but every now and then he tells a good story about a player or a manager and such. Gianluca Di Marzio is another good journalist who’s more serious than Palmeri and also has an English section on his website. He’s usually very reliable. OptaPaolo for stat dorks Calciatori Brutti, literally “ugly footballers”, is a pretty funny account that tweets a lot of humorous Italian sports things, usually about football. Every now and then they’re serious too. A good twitter account. Instagram as well. Italian football TV English language guys that have a podcast but also post a lot and generally are funny. Good for media like videos, pictures etc. They have a good insta too. The one dude Marco is on Paramount. He's the obvious child of the bunch and is a secret Juve fan, you can tell. Roma’s English language account is really good even if you’re not a Roma fan. They’re what everyone else’s social media team wants to be. Other teams have added English twitter accounts but none are as good as Roma's. Venezia's is good but you know, Serie B. Looking forward to Juve’s new and improved midfield! McKennie can get forward into the box, Pogba looks legit happy and that’s always a good sign, and then Locatelli should be freed up from having to just sit at the base of the midfield. Fantastic op as usual. Some comments that popped into my mind as I read it: Gigio leaving definitely ended up being a blessing for Milan, Maignan owns. Cremonese’s badge looks like it should belong to a Croatian or Serbian club that gets knocked out in the CL qualifying rounds. Bud Spencer is a name that shouldn’t belong to a striker playing in Italy, more like a teenage American football player from a 1960s sitcom. Missed the most notable Juve signing, Angelito will give 69 assists to Big Dusan this season. 2 points pissed away for Milan I think. Atalanta weren’t that good but Milan couldn’t finish for poo poo. Tonali was not up to his standards today. Musso really only made one save that I can remember and it was against him. Im not sure what Pioli is trying to do playing Giroud and Origi at the same time.
