Yeah theres a weird strain of sex negativity boiling up amongst some of the gen z's. My guess is its a combo of porn/semiporn overexposure, tumblr brain, and a bumper crop of folks who've been on SSRIs since puberty. Lol that the author brought up Female Dating Strategies as an example of women fighting back against sexualization. The ladies who read Incel screeds on how women act in relationships and say "oh yeah that sounds like a great idea!" are not a good example of anything.

I don't think we have the whole "having a family is cheating on your boss" mindset that the Japanese cultivated (and have been trying to stamp out for like a decade+). Our work culture isn't healthy, or family friendly, but Wal-mart doesn't expect 70 hours a week AND 8 hours of weekend bar hopping with your coworkers.

I'm honestly not surprised that young people in developed countries today have less sex than boomers did fifty years ago which was not only before climate anxiety and widespread economic insecurity but also before AIDS and Covid and heat waves and loss of all hope for the future.

not to blame men for everything, but I feel like every time I scroll through female-oriented subreddits there's a new post from someone saying "this is the third guy I've dated who choked me out without warning or permission, the sex is painful to mediocre, I keep getting infections because they don't wash their hands or dicks, they keep hiding the fact that they're right-wing, IUD insertion was agonizing and birth control kills my libido, this is not worth the risk of having to flee to New York for an abortion if the condom breaks" anecdotally a number of female friends I have like this just started shacking up with women instead, but I don't think the guys they've been dumping have been dating dudes in return, so there might be a larger number of single men out there than women

It’s relevant to this discussion in that, as you said, toxic masculinity is continually enforced not just by men, but by women as well. Plenty of women believe in their own liberation, but have frankly patriarchal views about what a man should be, at least when it comes to sexual partners. Don’t be a virgin over 30, don’t be bisexual, don’t be too feminine, don’t get too emotional (only to the point it indicates sensitivity without indicating weakness). A lot of times, when young men ask for dating advice, they often get two points of view: The traditional “red pill” one that conforms to their lived experiences somewhat, and when red pill ideology backfires it’s just because women are X, Y, or Z negative trait. On the other hand, they’ll get some liberal feminist advice that’s very useful for dating in the perfect theory world that lives in these feminists’ heads; but is useless for people trying to meet a basic need for human connection.

More the problem is every aspect of culture and education by default teaches men to be entitled abusive hateful insecure monsters who have no idea how to take care of themselves, and has been for decades at this point. Actually functioning men need to actively seek out alternatives or stumble into them if they're lucky.
