IDK if I can sum up what happens to you in your 30s and obviously it's not the same for everybody but one thing that's happened for me is that I've gone from hating folk music at the start of my 30s to thinking it loving slaps now in my late 30s.

Just listening to some Steeleye Span for the first time and it rules.
Here, Steeleye Span's best thing, and eternally relevant:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TDhK_glbVmI

I have complicated feeling about Steeleye Span. It seemed to be the only thing my dad liked back in the seventies, and I hated it with a passion, the harmonies put my teeth on edge. I appreciate it a bit more now, and I suppose I can, grudgingly, understand what he saw in it, but, eh, still not usually my cup of tea. But I can't argue with the message of songs like The Blackleg Miner.

Speaking of folk music thanks to the goon that recommended Moddi, I think I had him on repeat most of late last year.

If anyone knows anything new to fill an early-fka twigs shaped hole please let me know!

I'm sorry, am I to understand that, subsequent to that post, you got a tape measure and went back to the bookshop

I mean it's either that or you bought the book so it was readily available to be measured at home

OwlFancier

No I got the tape measure and looked at it because I keep forgetting how big an inch is.

I learned primarily in cm as a kid so I keep having this feeling that inches are like, massive, but they're smaller than I think.

I encourage readers to make their own knob jokes.

I learned to enjoy folk music from my mother, who along with my father played the London circuit in the early 70s. She taught me that good music is good regardless of genre, which is why I'm probably the only person to have seen Orbital, BB King, Deep Purple and Janis Ian live in the same calendar year. She was very excited to get tickets to see folk/techno fusion band Niteworks for her birthday this year as well.

Does this mean you have a massive knob? You tell your partners it's only 5 inches long then whip out an anaconda?

Didn't Isaac Newton used to do that but using a thin glass rod and not a book to stop his 'precious essences' escaping in the night?

I go through these glorious periods where I forget that sounding exists and eventually I get reminded and I just want to curl up and cry

:nms:I think it's because I can't forget the thing I read as a young teen where the Gestapo used to snap glass sounding rods in situ as a torture method and it's one of the few things I've read that genuinely scarred me

Can't get no luck.

A 10p or a 2p coin are near enough an inch in diameter.

10p is 24.5mm
1" is 25.4mm
2p is 25.9mm

Also 5x1p coins together is only 0.1mm (which is about the thickness of a sheet of 80gsm copier paper) short of 4 inches.

it needs a helpful mnemonic, like the Going Metric ones from the sixties:

A metre measures three feet three,
It's longer than a yard, you see.

Two and a quarter pounds of Jam
Weighs about a kilogram.

A litre of water's a pint and three quarters.
