pretty tough to find anything with the general high production of blowback, but i'd say ghost stories for the end of the world is great. generally about political/deep state/intelligence intrigue in the 20th century. i'd just jump in to the first couple eps on the dutroux affair and the brabrant killings to get an idea of his style, then look around for whichever topic sounds interesting. he's pretty consistent in terms of his aesthetic and production, so i wouldn't worry much about jumping around

audiobook might be a better recommend, though. jakarta method's a great one, but i'd add if you want to get fully dulles-pilled go listen to the devil's chessboard

the dutroux affair is still one of the more insane things ive ever heard. less so in a post-epstein world, but still.

The repeated “mother of my children who I thank immensely for the gift she gave me…” and “my future wonderful wife I haven’t met yet…” were real red flags. Once would have been one thing but I feel like each occurred four or five times. Coach definitely is a salesman though which is a great skill to have if you’re a trial lawyer

I'm like an hour into this alab episode and it's such a riot that he really just wants to argue that he's cool and funny. it's patently obvious he was upset he got dunked on and wants a chance to show that he can hang

I enjoyed the “settled for less than $10million bit because it’s clear coach wants to make it sound like he got money even though it feels abundantly clear he didn’t

I think it would have been far less reliable. It was already close, with them having to do stuff like the anthrax attacks to ensure support for the war. If it was already that close, I think it's quite possible that they wouldn't have been able to get the support if neither of the towers had fallen.

To be clear, I don't think the towers were destroyed with demolition (mainly because arranging that would have been extremally impractical). Just that there's a motive there, given a plane hitting the towers and killing < 100 people might not be enough on its own. There's a good chance that they assumed that at least one of the planes (or the net total of them) would have an outcome "good" enough to justify war, since there were also the others (like the Pentagon one).

But it's adding more risk, not taking it away. Why would they drastically increase the amount of possible witnesses by hiring people to plant explosives when they have already gone through with planning the plane attacks? Or, looking at it another way, why do the plane attacks when they could just go with explosives and say it was truck bombs like okc?

I always thought of controlled demolition as implausible because it's a double attack. Why would they double the risk of getting exposed? Did they plan the plane attacks and then later arbitrarily decide causalities would be too low for their purposes, so they added a bunch more people to the crew to do demolition?

I just can't buy the idea that a quadruple kamikaze attack was too understated and needed some extra oomph

i've finally gotten around to reading the franklin scandal and holy poo poo, read that for more mind-bending evil. i know bryant's done some interviews, and those do give a pretty good overview of the case, but the book goes into so much more detail that it doesn't feel so much like i'm taking bryant's word. especially alisha owen's federal perjury case. the sheer number of powerful people/systems that must have colluded to prevent her testimony from being legitimized is staggering. gotta wonder just how many power players had their hand in that cookie jar

Anyway they were right to settle because while they likely would have won easily, they clearly didn't want to podcast with litigation open against the podcast and fighting that suit would have taken god knows how long because the guy would have dragged it out as long as he could just to screw with them. Now they can make more ALAB!
