MJF wins because, and I’m not just being a snotball, Punk is too fragile to hold the belt for an extended run. It’s good for him to be in the mix but I wouldn’t be surprised to see him shift over to a trios run with FTR.

I'll be honest. I never want to see MJF hold the title. He's amazing at everything and he should hold the title but...I'm just too old to enjoy being antagonized quite that much.
And the last time AEW did that the payoff got hosed anyway.

Eh, I just want to see heel Punk. As far as I'm concerned that's the Punk I've wanted from the drop. I understood the face run up to a point but I personally feel it's run its course by now. Plenty of people disagree with me, that's fine.

In hindsight, and that can't be stressed enough, the joker battle royal thing should have been on the pre-show. Let the goofy devil man ending be the cliffhanger that convinces people on the fence to buy the show. I don't think the match worked as well as I expected it to as an opener. THAT'S ALL HINDSIGHT THOUGH!

If they're building to a BEEF match between Wardlow and Hobbs (because who should be next now that Wardlow is done with Lethal), than Hobbs winning is the right move.

it wasn't as good as the best ppvs of all time we've been getting lately, but there are two for sure moty contenders, and two really really good matches, and then a bunch of good stuff in between. ask yourself, can you really go wrong with an aew ppv?

I think Jade stopped getting better about 10 defenses ago. The only thing she showed me in this match is that she can land a pump kick on a flipping target.
Now we're back to 'Jade squashes nobodies for god knows how long'-ville becuase she's completely out of challengers.

Great to post with y’all as always, that being said this was probably the weakest AEW I’ve seen in a long time. Lots of confusing finishes, deflating moments, and weird booking. That being said, a mediocre AEW show is still better than any modern WWE I’ve ever seen lol. Trios, SIOG/Acclaimed, and the main event were all amazing. This was probably one of their best ending angles ever too. Just executed perfectly.
Can’t wait for MJF to beat Punk!

Grimey Drawer
This is literally the only time an AEW PPV has ever left a bad taste in my mouth.

And no, it's not about Mox losing the title. It's about the fact that 1. I have always thought MJF is overrated, 2. I don't really care about CM Punk as a top face in 2022, 3. They just ran an all-time classic MJF/Punk program shortly before MJF left and I don't see any way this one is as good, especially given how recently it happened, and 4. I just know in my soul that what's gonna happen is MJF is gonna beat Punk for the title and then probably Hangman is gonna save the day, which I can understand the logic behind but it does nothing for me. Oh and 5. The Casino ladder match 100% telegraphed the entire main event and that loving sucked.

Zebia posted:

It's also entirely possible that this drummed up more interest (ratings were pretty good the last two weeks for those segments specifically) but you can never be too sure they wouldn't be higher any o ther way.

Well turns out I was right. No heel Punk, no good story. Punk just came back with an exploded foot 10 days later, had a normal match, had a babyface win and will feud with MJF like he was supposed to 3 months ago. So much for the "just wait and see how it plays out" people.
