I can't see how not taking action is leading to a positive outcome. The strikes aren't for another week FFS.

And it's up to the members how to proceed, not the leadership. If there's policy on something then the exec don't have license to just do what they like. We don't pass votes at AGM with any kind of caveat that they can be ignored if they become inconvenient.

'Class' as in mannerisms, 'good taste', good housekeeping, and all that, has long positioned itself in opposition to vulgar Volkish nationalisms, where the test of one's quality is their ethnicity. Nazi meant 'ignorant peasant' long before it meant the other thing.

The quiet part is that it spends even more time and effort opposing any kind of material analysis of class, which is what keeps perpetuating it.

Yes? Did you expect her to terminate a thousand year old institution in such a way that it would have no effect whatsoever on the real world? Are you, like, twelve?

I don't think anybody is pretending or would expect the literal Queen to be a socialist firebrand, yeah?

No I didn't expect it which is why it's absolutely fine to criticize them for being part of the problem. Like it or not they're inextricably linked to the empire and imperialism so it's loving weird that people are defending her about it.

I wonder if they'll bother, none of the monarchs pre-Liz were on the banknotes, they might do pictures of buildings or mythological characters or whatever else.

My God, it's full of Horatios!

I mean, she was a very old woman who died, as very old people tend to. Now her son gets to be king.

I find the performative grief weird and the performative happiness a bit, idk, attention seeking? Like, adolescent edginess, dead baby joke kind of things. It feels like the culture wars have colonised every bit of public discourse, and what people say about this, on social media at least, is just another affirmation of what side they’re on.

Yeah I guess that my entertainment yesterday was mostly at the histrionics. I'm not glad she's dead in the way I would be if, say, Boris brained himself on the toilet and died covered in turds. Her evils were more symbolic than the active malice of the political class.

The queen, unlike most politicians, has not been actively evil to the population of the UK. She's been born into a rotting edifice of aristocracy, and acted accordingly to those rules and norms while a procession of cunts came and went, at worse being a racist and protective grandma. I'd be much more willing to celebrate the demise of the current government over the queen.

Eh, being a billionaire subsidized by taxpayers is pretty evil. As is protecting a pedophile. I'm not really happy that she died because at least she kept her mouth shut but monarchy in itself is such a ridiculous and bizarre thing that I am happy at the tears of all monarchists and their clear problems with Farmer George Environmentalist Charles. Also looking forward to couple of countries no doubt shedding the trappings of having your head of state being chosen by what vagina they came out of.

There is definitely a performative element to both sides. Since we're governed and informed by the royalists though, they get to set the tempo of the compulsory grief explosion so I assume alot of the loud celebration is a way of compensating and letting the world know that they don't speak for everyone and we aren't all crying into our gruel at the loss of our beloved nonce defending monarch
