It's always been that way/always been frame/suspension/powertrain differences. Wait until somebody tells you about the same cab on a lot of gens of 450 and up being identical to the pickup cabs from the firewall back.

Last time it was OWE EMM GEE LOOK HOW MUCH BIGGER THE MODERN TRUCK IS. While forgetting to point out that it's an actual *compact* truck, with a single cab vs a crew cab fullsize. Apples to bananas comparison. But hey clicks and retweets!!!

Also, single cab vs crew cab doesn't mean add a few feet of height. When people complain about how big trucks have gotten, length isn't usually the cause.

I still think a more valid comparison would be older f150 crew cab vs the new one. The f150 started coming with a crew in the 98 or 99 model year? Put them side by side. I'm sure the new one is still bigger and heavier etc. E: I'm also still stuck on the last time the pic made the rounds. That said, F150 still jumbo sized in a way you don't understand until you see them outside their native habitat, trying to interact with a world not built for them.

I think the only time it wasn't in the last 30 years was during the aero-truck era (gently caress, that's a lovely sentence). The bubble "3/4 ton" lasted one or two years before the Superduty trucks came out. I'd guess Ford really wanted to consolidate models after they stopped building semi-trucks and the biggest of their straight trucks. I like the idea of modular cabs. All the poo poo that breaks shared across multiple layouts and platforms. Snapped off a mirror? Crunched a bumper? Shattered the lights? No problem, there are plenty in circulation. My favorite is the big Hinos. Same basic cab for most size trucks, even between cab overs and standard configs. madeintaipei fucked around with this message at 22:52 on Sep 19, 2022 |

This is what I'm saying about "everything behind the firewall". My point about the F150/250/350 thing is: they're all full sized trucks. If you wanted a smaller truck you buy something that is not a full sized truck, not a full sized truck with lighter suspension on it.

I always wanted one of those airport people movers. I thought they would have an awesome family car. E350 van cab up front, lexan greenhouse out the back. Seats 22, or a family of 4 and enough floorspace that if you remove the seats you don't even need a tent Apparently these are listed as "22 passenger party vans" on Google Not as practical as a 7 series for daily driver, but maybe useful as a weekend warrior. Best part? It's just a regular ford van mechanically, get parts at any napa or AutoZone. They're like $15k in any auto trader

I'm hoping some come on the used market in a few years.

Maybe not the 22 seater variant, but didn't we have someone in AI that bought an airport shuttle Ford, I think he posted some rust repair pics that also showed how shoddily built it was?

Yeah some towns/villages have narrow parts and tight corners that you’d never get a big truck like that down. I have some experience driving vans (ford transit LWB) which probably have a similar footprint and I’ve had to be careful in some areas about which roads to take.
