The very early general invitations are generally (ha) completely worthless; the later you get in the game, the better and stronger they get, with some genuinely quite powerful pages only obtainable from them. Plague has some neat ideas that generally don't pan out (excl. the workshop-affiliated fixers), but everything past that is worth checking out more or less immediately.

Actually, how good are most of the Star of the City General Reception stuff? Like, here's what I read: -While Dong-hwan isn't as good for Bleed as Xiao is for Burn, he's still the best Bleed user in the whole game -Mirae Life Insurance combined with the Olivier cards Brace Up and Impugnatio Ultima is how you build endgame Discard decks -Night Awl's Haste and Bind focus isn't worth it? -Udjat are very good defensive support for teams -Leaflet Workshop is underwhelming as the capstone to Smoke builds? -Bayard is strong.

Dong Hwan is just. mediocre. There's basically no bleed support in SotC so he just kinda exists. From a discard lover, Mirae is almost completely useless, and again, there's basically no discard synergy in SotC. I don't think I've ever used any of Bayard's cards, and his gimmick is awful due to the built in fragile, especially if you try to use his signature card. Forget the haste and bind, the Night Awls are insane for the +2 pierce passive alone. Just build them mono-pierce decks Udjat make great tanks. Leaflet has some decent things for the smoke deck.

Mirae is actually pretty incredible as a support, Multi-Party Compensation is phenomenal. She's not going to be doing anything on her own, but with some shenanigans involving getting lucky with Clone you can basically give everyone else in your party infinite Light and in the absolute worst case scenario including her in your party means that your entire party will get a free point of light every other turn or so. With some added Haste generation if you throw Flip the Table in there too, of course. Pretty great for Binah who has some pretty severe Light generation issues. You underestimate how strong Bayard's gimmick is. Pinpoint Breakthrough can and will oneshot stagger bosses such as the Musicians of Bremen during the boss rush. It is a very, very big number.

I really like the part where projmoon thought +2 pierce power for -2 blunt/slash dice power was even slightly balanced. Stick a wedge on that for +3 to pierce and still have plenty of points left over because allen happens to also be speed 3. Gale kick, Frontal Assault, Will of the Prescript, Somber Procuration, Wedging Thorn, and Dagger Press are all great pages without even getting into sotc3. Like, dagger press is a 5-10 pierce / 4-6 block / 6-10 pierce for 1 before any other buffs.

Swordplay is also on a Speed 1 page loaded with other passives, so if you want to have an actual build later on you do need to spend the attribution points on transferring it, and it is on exactly one page. Stiletto costs 1 less, comes on a speed 3 with slots, and also on generics if you do want to attribute it. You're running monotype with the power boost anyway so they actually made it even stronger. SotC balance is wack enough that it doesn't really matter if they give you stuff like that (it walled me for like a week straight my first time through) but. man

Allen and the Night Awls giving you nine sources of Stiletto is vital for challenging the true final boss of Library of Ruina, "Not quitting the game when you realize that the Reverb Ensemble wants you to make twenty separate character key page + deck combinations (which cannot include Binah or Geburah)." (Maybe I'd have enjoyed that part of the game more if all the Realizations hadn't left me burned-out on the whole "endurance fight" concept.)

So idly I was checking the combat page directory thingy (side note: it's domain is moving) because I wanted to confirm a theory I had off the top of my head, and I was proven correct. Almost every Non-EGO Mass Attack page the player can use obtain (I'm including Gebura's Greater Split: Horizontal and Xiao's Pu Lao, Ya Zi and Tao Tie as EGO pages for this) has some sort of major downside or requirement before it can be used. -Raging Storm: Harm is single-use and requires a charge turn beforehand. -Eradication requires the Blade Unlocked state. -Raging Storm: Love is also single-use. -Mind Crush and Ground Crash require 20 Charge to use, and Ground Crash also purges the Charge. -Mirage Storm and Distorted Blade are just stupid expensive at 7 Light. The only exception is Binah's Degraded Shockwave. I mean, yeah, it makes sense that the only way for the player to do AOE damage would have some downsides or caveats, but still.

Came this close to beating Binah realization, but I couldn't generate enough light for long enough. I'll try tweaking their decks, but I would also like to ask: -Does power nullification affect passives that increase power, or just temporary status effects like strength? -Does smoke, burn, bleed et all increase stagger damage taken or just regular damage? I'm currently kind of scared to have anyone on the field who isn't a specialist in dealing a particular type of damage. There's a whole bunch of gimmicks I could be trying, but part of me doesn't want to bother if they can't win clashes or beat mass attacks.

Power nullification affects all power effects. This includes power effects from status effects as well as passives, and even power effects that are intrinsic to a combat page. I italicize this last point because combat pages such as Scratch That, Blind Faith, Night on the Backstreets, and Proselyte's Blade all actually benefit from power nullification as that means the negative power loss from their pages don't activate while power null is in effect. To answer your second question, damage passives only affect health damage, not stagger damage. Smoke does boost stagger damage if you have Sooty Thwack, and there's a Liu passive that does cause Burn to afflict stagger damage, but without specific passives, these status effects only affect your health. A useful tech card to run in Binah realization is PT's Identify Weakpoint, since that card will always strike Apoc Bird where it hurts. As a bonus, it will almost always beat the summation mass attack and has decent odds against the light drain mass attack also.

Interesting. I'm still on the fence about whether to include a Xiao in this fight, even with that particular passive, since regular damage does not appear to matter at all until all the eggs are broken. Strongly considering adding Bayard to the mix because of Pinpoint Breakthrouth, assuming I can keep attacks off him while he's unusable. My current key pages are Binah, Allen, Yae, Purple Tear and Dong-hwan (who has a Rapid Gashes build). Haven't tried Hokma realization yet, since I wanted to beat Binah's first. Xiao would probably be more useful in that one, plus I can put Remembrance on three of my librarians, but other than that I'm not sure what advantages I can bring to that fight specifically. Edit: Also, if Identify Weakpoint is on someone with power boosts to blunt or pierce, does it get those when attacking an enemy weak to blunt or pierce? Identify Weakpoint is god-tier for apoc bird by the way, its still one of the hardest realizations (mostly if you don't rush down judgement bird hard enough and lose a nugget) but IW makes it SO much easier you would not believe. And yes, running power loss pages is a pretty good idea for apoc bird, not only because of anti-power null, but also because "on use: lose power" means they get the full rolls for mass attacks. Blind Faith is the standout card here to bring. comparatively hokma realization is basically free, just bring Good Pages and you'll be fine.

Finally beat the bird, only for the game to crash trying to load the cutscene after that. At least I know I'm on the right track with what I'm doing. Here's what I had on when I got my fleeting victory; maybe with your advice the next time will be easier. Binah's passives were Eye of Death/Enervation, Dark Cloud Blade and Mind Hauler. Albert Camus had The Purple Tear's Page with All for Hana, the Twelve Fixers and Mind Hauler. -Slash deck: Forward March, Class and Respect, Multislash, Serpent Sword Technique, The Will of the City, A Critical Moment, Eliminate, Blind Faith -Pierce deck: Frontal Assault, Wedging Thorn, Extract Fuel, Gale Kick, Jamadhar, Confrontation, Will of the Prescript, Coordinated Assault, Celestial Spear -Blunt deck: Puppet Blockade, Forward March, Gigigig, Multislash, Steel Knuckles, Great Serpent's Impact, Forceful Gesture, Double-edged Rencounter, Augury Kick -Guard deck: Graze the Grass, Gigigig, Extract Fuel, The Will of the City, Seize Ya Chance, Will of the Prescript, Sturdy Defense, Bi An, Blind Faith Milan Kundera had Allen's Page with Wedge, Health Hauler, Mind Hauler and Finishing Touch. -Their deck: Frontal Assault, Wedging Thorn, Extract Fuel, Dagger Press, Somber Procuration, Seize Ya Chance, Will of the Prescript, Prod the Weakness, Stiletto Franz Kafka had Dong-hwan's Page with Swordplay of the Homeland, Mind Hauler and Health Hauler. -Their deck: Clone x3, The Will of the City x3, Rapid Gashes x3 Thomas Ligotti had Yae's Page with Lion's Fist, Concussion and Puppet Skeleton. -Their deck: Puppet Blockade, Gigigig, High Kick, Multislash, Trace of Fumes, Steel Knuckles, Deep Drag, Loss of Senses, Exhale Smoke One reason why I'm hyperfocused on finishing LoR asap is because I'm streaming it for some friends and I'm nervous about not knowing what I'm doing and wasting time while people are watching. Pause early, pause often, never unpause until you're sure you have a good grasp on the situation, and after unpausing pause again a second or so later to check if you actually had a good grasp on the situation. If you are assigning any orders while unpaused you're doing it wrong. Other than that, the "restart day" button is your best friend. Any time you get a new abnormality in the facility start the day knowing that it will crash and burn and that's fine. Find out as much information as you can while your facility is falling apart, and then restart the day knowing how to prevent it from crashing and burning. Or at least knowing how to make it take longer to burn down, while you get even more information bringing that run where nothing goes horribly long ever closer.

This is 100% true, only an idiot would even try doing all of the major boss fights in one run, let alone the entire thing. Repositories are your friend. Retries are free. Day 1’s are great for when you’re wanting extra time to do things. Just focus on the missions you can do and carry on with calmness and grace. You literally have all the time in the world.

Another tip is to not think of returning to day 1 as a fail state. You'll need to do it at least once to beat the game unless you're using a walkthrough for a very specific setup, so think of it as a chance to use your improved knowledge of the game to build a facility that can stand up to the very very hard endgame days.

Step 0: Set up Yesod to kick rear end. Bamboo-Hatted Kim, Yujin, three monoblunt decks on Emma's page with Puppets appended. This should be tough enough to get you through a few fights. step 1: do enough Thumb fights (far left) to get enough of their keypages (generic or otherwise) to fill out an entire floor. You just need four of them. Don't even need to clear both fights. step 2: Set up a firing squad floor on a floor that ISN'T Yesod. Thumb keypage, all three of the Full Stop passives, 3xIndiscriminate Shots, 3xTake The Shot, 3xI Hate CQC. This setup should be enough to kill anything in the game. step 3: Do the middle-left node. Focus down the boss until he retreats, and the rest should be easy pickings. Especially if you equip everyone with Puffy Brume. Use Yesod for this, not the firing squad. step 4: Do the second middle-left node. Use Yesod's floor and Binah's floor. When you get the boss down to half health and it phase changes, just do as much damage as you can before you die. Then use the firing squad floor from step 2 to one-shot the boss with your backup floor. Yes, it will go from 350 health to 0 in one turn. Step 5: Effortlessly crush the rest of the game with the keypage you just got, for what should be obvious reasons. The deck I personally run with it is 3xSpear, 3xLevel Slash, and 3xSteel Knuckles from the Thumb. GilliamYaeger fucked around with this message at 07:10 on Sep 27, 2022 |

Ideally never proceed without having all your abnormalities fully researched, all available gear extracted and having done a satisfactory amount of training.

Actually feeling legit torn on what to vote for when we're done with Abnormalities. On one hand: Thumb would be a quick Hokma unlock because TQ could only do part 1 since part 2 requires Liu, meaning we could knock out Snow Queen early. Also, while most of the talk I see about the Thumb stuff is how they enable easy Full Stop firing squads, the played-straight, "Generate Ammo cards and then use big cards to spend em" playstyle does legitimately seem like a cool and fun design space. On second hand: Gears would let TQ write Argalia, which is fun, and also would send the thread into overdrive over my pre-spoiler post connecting the plot to Orlando Innamorato/Furioso with the confirmation that Argalia's sister is named Angelica. On third hand: Liu immediately establishes what Phillip did after he left the Library which will certainly turn heads, and the Xiao/Lowell romance will get The Tragic Doomed Love established early. Also, Fervor is just a solid, always-useful passive, from what I've heard. On fourth hand: Nemo is a ginormous meme, and Pluto ripping out Bada's heart is one of my favorite CGs in the game (even if the text obscures Pluto holding it). Plus it's where Charge Officially Gets Good.
