If they have to do another leadership contest for a snap election then it is 100% going to be Sunak vs Johnson.

The ultimate constitutional comeback is an angry mob storming Parliament and hoisting the lot of 'em from Big Ben, because any nominally democratic government is designed to govern by consent and therefore does not have the resources or infrastructure to adequately protect itself from that without a counterbalancing degree of popular support. We're... probably a long way from that particular part of our constitutional structure being put to the test, but this government appears intent on pushing closer to that line than most.

The problem with Truss is that she doesn't have her own agenda, she's just a vacant container that other people poured their own ideas into, so she's just gone in and done what she's told should be done with zero ability to compromise or read the room, and now has no ability to respond when it all immediately went to poo poo. Out by Christmas seems like a real possibility.

Buy to let landlords are as hosed by interest rate hikes as homeowners are - possibly more, as banks do reguard them as riskier and tend to have higher rates.

Fun story related to that on the front page today's FT "Somerset Capital Management, the fund manager co-founded by business secretary Jacob Rees-Mogg, is in sale talks just three years after rejecting a £90mn takeover bid. This time the emerging markets specialist’s valuation is a fraction of that, after the sector was hit by a sell-off" forkboy84 fucked around with this message at 13:03 on Sep 26, 2022 |
