There's a difference between a bad decision and suspending the normal government procedures to gag the OBR etc and go completely against the Bank of England, resulting in economic chaos though surely? Especially when you look at the interests of the people implementing the policies, it's hard to say 'I genuinely thought it was in the country's best interests'. Don't get me wrong the tories do some heinous poo poo but I do think part of the problem is they genuinely believe they are right when they do it, just propped up by spineless toads. Except the barrel has been scraped and now it's toads all the way down rather than ideological zealots.

Especially when you look at the interests of the people implementing the policies, it's hard to say 'I genuinely thought it was in the country's best interests'. The OBR was made up by a previous conservative government and mostly exists to argue why spending money bad and to draw the same line on the same graph every year in utter defiance of reality. And the BoE is subservient to the government, its job is to do as they tell it. Also I really don't know if you could look at this lot and think they are not ideological zealots, this is small government ancap paradise, deregulate everything, cut all taxes, only fund things which protect property and let the market sort it all out, there are plenty of people who still believe in reaganomics despite decades of proof that it doesn't work.

On the one hand, it’s going to (quite literally) get loads of us killed. But on the other, an incoming Tory Prime Minister killing the Queen and terminally tanking the economy within three weeks - and only a few days of actual working time - is very, very funny.

The Stone Roses were quite a big English band circa '89-'95. Ian Brown was their singer and has had a largely ignored solo career since. During lockdown he put out a COVID conspiracy tune, and now he's doing his first post-COVID tour and has decided that rather than hire a band he'll just sing karaoke over the backing tracks, which punters are a bit miffed about

Speaking of people who were much bigger in the 90s, last week I went to see Steven Page, former lead singer of the Barenaked Ladies. Bucking the trend he showed up with a few other people to play instruments and the concert was so good I literally wept with joy, the first time I've ever openly cried at a concert. I'm glad I went to that instead of Ian Brown.
