All the different bbq techniques are really good when done right and I love all of them except for the Missouri styles which gently caress those but the rest, even that weird rear end Alabama white sauce, I’ve had good versions of

Their plan if they absolutely had to evacuate was to sit in the car in a parking lot as physically close as possible to the house. There was no plan that day other than stay in/around the house. Thankfully Calfire formed a good line and the winds were pretty calm that day. Jesus, there are far less painful ways to go than slowly roasting to death in a car. Also to keep on topic, this is also about the worst BBQ technique.

Well obviously (hopefully) they weren't going to go down with the ship, but it was clear they had no plans that didn't involve there being a ship and that evacuation was only to be done so as to be as close to the sinking ship as allowed.

Just found out one of my idiot uncles tried to ride it out in fort meyers. Place is predictably trashed, he's ok, just grumpy because there is no AC now (loving boomers, man - doesn't even seem relieved to be alive just pissed his beer is warm and it's too humid). but now I have a lovely mental image of him and my aunt trying to futilely hold a door shut after the storm surge broke the lock and just water pouring in through everywhere else.

So I guess that’s why we didn’t get updates from Cape Coral right away as the hurricane passed? There was anything there to send reports?

Per NHC Ian is already back at 85mph, which is more than they predicted for it's next landfall, and it's trying to develop an eyewall again. Good chance it smacks into Charleston as a Cat 2.
