Folks also get crazy trying to find arguments how obviously racist statements and acts are actually totally not racist. People defended political cartoons where Obama, for no clear reason, has fried chicken and watermelon in his vicinity as just being an honest mix up. Surely multiple people were just on a Watermelon vibe while also being inspired to comment on the same politician. Certain people are just so dead set on denying any racism exists that suggesting cartoons like the Obama ones even contain a racial element is pushed back on. Even if the authors of those cartoons issued public statements, notarized and signed in triplicate, declaring their racist intent behind their cartoon, and that there is no mix up in their choices as they were chosen specifically to promote racial hatred, you'd still get people saying it doesn't count as being racially motivated because maybe the author simply misspoke repeatedly, or didn't get enough sleep, or whatever.
