By the end of the last one they learned that apes unrelated to the original escape were also smart and how humans were losing their ability to reason and speak. So it was pretty well set up as finally a Planet of the Apes.

Having another actual Planet of the Apes remake (especially after Burton's shitsterpiece) would be redundant since there would be no twist, and nobody wants the focus to be on some humans. What made these films succeed is that none of the humans ever stole the limelight off the apes, to the point that no human ever reprised their role in a sequel. Compare that to the Mummy, where you came for the Mummy, only to get two hours of Tm Cruise on an ego-trip.

Credit to Rupert Wyatt for Rise, because if someone explained the “No!” scene without context it would sound absolutely ridiculous, but in context it’s incredible. Then the Reeves sequels slap the whole time. Those movies deserve way more credit.
