I know it’s not quite on to comment on politicians’ looks, but, is it just me or does it look like Truss has aged 10 years since she became PM?

She assumed her ideas were brilliant and that everyone would love them and they immediately crashed the entire country, and she does not have the wherewithal to course correct even a little bit, so I'm not surprised tbh.

It's absolutely insane that they're still sticking to the "consumption of gas and electricity is a decision for individuals" line and not messaging intensively about reducing use. Though I guess we have no storage so saving power now accomplishes very little. I'm not sure why the focus has to be on individuals rather than offices and shops which waste staggering amounts of power.

Like, they are threatening 'to get the police involved', while forcefully escorting this guy out. Does the photographer have a case against the security if he was genuinely doing nothing 'wrong'?

Well lots of the shops will all have collapsed by then! Energy saved, well done grate britane! People who are already struggling to pay energy bills and cutting back on hot food/heating/lights are really not going to be helped by a lot of patronising energy saving tips, I imagine. It'll be like the covid guidance where some of it initially didn't do very well at taking into account people who didn't have nice spacious well-maintained homes. And then it'll immediately get all culture war as the usual right wing types insist they don't want to be told when to run their dishwashers and that's what they personally fought Hitler to ensure.

You can get great rigid solar panels that might even fit on your back (weight notwithstanding) but you need to be willing to spend orders of magnitude more money. And carry a heavy converter/battery around. e: e.g. this - https://www.jackery.com/products/solarsaga-200w-solar-panel - might even keep a non-gaming laptop charged up. Maybe someone who knows more than me can answer this: the GBP to USD rate just now is at about 1.14, in 2010 it was at about 1.50, in 2000 it was at 2.20 is this any kind of track of the UK being in economic decline over the past 20 years or is it caused by something else?

I recall the Euro was originally around 1.60 to the £1 when it first kicked in to general use. Anyway, apparently yes Sterling has been in long term decline: https://www.economicshelp.org/blog/135/economics/falling-value-of-pound-sterling/ The pound floated instead of fixed exchange around 1972/3 - I remember we had a school float in the town carnival of a submarine. Here's another article. https://commonslibrary.parliament.uk/pound-in-your-pocket-devaluation-50-years-on/ When we lived in Germany in the 70s, dad was paid in £ and at some point it went from 7DM to the £ to 3DM to the £ so it was like a massive paycut.
