My hunch is that people like her are too lazy/focusgrouped to choose their own public outfit and someone got her to wear it as a prank she's too stupid to realise is even happening.
I wouldn't put it past some nudge institute dipshit doing it so that the guardian talk about that instead of the content of her speech.

Also they probably didn't tell Truss about it either.

I'm sure she's very stupid but failing to recognise an outfit from a TV show most people have probably never heard of isn't really an indicator of it, and having someone in charge of your wardrobe is pretty normal/sensible if you're a significant public figure.

In her position she should have Hugo Boss in charge of her wardrobe.

That dress was no coincidence. Liz Truss micromanages everything about her appearance. In a way, her instagram feed is all she cares about. She's been blatantly copying Thatcher, so why not dress as a TV fascist when going full fascist? Thatcher never managed to get this far...

The Thick of It in general is absolutely a lunatic fantasy. It's an alternate universe the press are determined to do their jobs and only the most furious, terrifying man alive can keep them from bringing down the goverment for a laugh. They even go after Tories!

Sadly it's an internal one for a business analysis/management role (I have zero experience or interest in the actual team management side). It would be a decent pay bump and I get on pretty well with all levels of management here, but it'll definitely be of the 'talk about the projects you've run!' kind and ehhhhh. I mainly applied so the role wouldn't go to a person worse than me :v:

Good luck mate. Be honest and make sure you think of at least one good question to ask them before going in. Also, talk a little bit slower than you usually would from the start, it'll give you more time to think and also make you less likely to trip over words and make mistakes.

Its definitely very lib but its still entertaining. It reminds me of Luthor in a lot of ways where if I stop and compare it to reality even for a second it makes no sense, but I'm enjoying Idris Elba swaggering around London so much that I don't care.

There's a set of trashfuture bonus episodes doing a watchalong, they're very funny but all I will say is "bins mate."

The baddies entire evil regime is brought down by footage of the camps being released to the press and a horrified public, which... I mean they were doing all of this in plain sight anyway, there is literally no reason it would be a shock to the public. plus it's the British public so in all likelihood the response would be "Good, they should 'ang 'em an' all, serve 'em right."

I've got an interview on Tuesday for a job I nearly forgot to apply for and did in a panic on Sunday night at about 10:30. Internal, similar work to what I'm already doing but the next pay grade up. Could really do with the money, so fingers crossed!

Good luck to all other interviewing goons, seems like there's something in the water (and that something is widespread panic at the cost of living)

I'm not interviewing, but I've been in my new role at work for a few months and they haven't yet updated my job title or pay, so this weekend my CV is getting dusted up so that next week I can say "no, really, please adjust my pay by month's end or I'm looking for other work".

They need someone in the job and they've got someone working on the pay and progression structure for the entire team because it's relatively new and they're genuinely trying to invest in it... But while that's happening I'm getting forgotten about and it's clear that they aren't going to do anything unless I take charge, so here we are.

Sometimes, in a city this dirty, you need a real hero.
Is anyone able to help me understand UK tax codes?

Basically, I started a new job in June but I just checked my account and my pay since I started was considerably lower than I expected (I have my banking/bills automated so forget to check that stuff).

It turns out my tax code has been changed and I'm on SD1X now instead of S1235L (which I was on at my last company). From a bit of basic Googling and from what I'm seeing, it means I'm not on whatever the pro-rata tax system is and 41% of all of my income is being taxed now.

That's got to be a mistake right?

The company I now work for is part of a Global business which has offices in Scotland (where I live) however my "official" office is in England i work remotely. I also had to register for self-assessment due to claiming childcare benefits earlier in the year so dunno if that might have led to the change.

I'm all for paying taxes, but this really doesn't seem right.

Sounds like this, although the code doesn't match. https://www.gov.uk/tax-codes/emergency-tax-codes
If you change jobs and the revenue man doesn't get his information in time, they put you on emergency tax just to be sure you're not underpaying.

This happened to me once. My previous employer took their time filing my p45 and my new employer started paying me so you get put on emergency tax code for the new job because they think you're working both

OwlFancier

That happened to one of my co-workers, speak to HMRC about it and they should help sort it out and give you a rebate, eventually.

The code you’re on is one that applies to a second job. I.e. you have one job that pays over the higher rate tax threshold then get another one from a second employer, so all income from that second job is subject to higher rate tax.

Most likely error I think is that your previous employer didn’t submit a leaving date for you.

Your current employer can’t do anything about this - they just get told your code by HMRC. You’re best off calling HMRC and they will likely be able to correct their records over the phone and you’ll get a refund in your next salary payment.

Thanks for the reassurance.

My new job has been pretty full-on since I started so I've not had a chance to follow up with my last company, but it looks like I can't even find a P45 from them on irispay or in my emails. Is it likely that's the reason this has happened (they've basically not submitted it?)

edit: Aha, yup, sounds like that might be it.
