If you lost your mother, and she was a principal of a school who people say didn’t get slaughtered, that her anguish is crisis acting, and that she deserves the treatment she’s getting, it makes perfect sense for that to be the lead on the file.

Yeah, but it seems like it hit Ms Lafferty the worst because her mom was the Principal, and died with five other teachers/staff and 20 children. It’s bad enough to lose your mom, but losing your mom and being told she’s still alive/faking her death/acting to take away guns  …Oh. The rape threats. To someone. Whose only connection to the case was that her mother got murdered and some psychos decide to target and break someone who wasn’t even there for a stand-in for the mother? Yeah. That’s permanent psychological and sexual trauma damage. Just…remember that.

I listened to the charge the judge read out. There was a yes/no verdict question for the jury of whether punitives should be awarded. But her explanation made it sound like they were capped at fees, which I thought wasn't the case because of the fraud charge...

My understanding is that while the amount the jury awards is capped at fees, the judge determines the amount of punitive damages under CUTPA (the fraud charge).

Sometimes super small towns with like one courthouse and one judge can be more flexible, but juries require a bailiff and someone to unlock the door and whatnot. The courthouse needs to be open for that.

Question from the jury asking to clarify what it means to make each victim whole in an equal manner. Every time I've had a jury question like this one, it spelled bad news for the plaintiff because it signified that the jury is confused. Confusion generally translates to lack of meeting whatever the burden is.

Yeah, I'm not sure this means much of anything as per the Jury's thinkings on damages, as much as they're just wanting clarity on a some really old, wonky language so they don't end up misinterpreting anything.

Just keeping in mind a lot of the jury questions in Texas sounded bad but in the end everyone was up for a huge penalty, and the two jurors who disagreed only did so because they wanted Alex to pay more than the rest.
