He and Daemon were pretty staunch allies and Corlys didn't really care about the bloodline so I'm guessing he largely ignores it Yeah I think if he lives he shrugs and says "Vaemond was an idiot who stepped out of line". The whole basis of Rhaenyra's (and Rhaenys') argument was that she just was acting out Corlys' wishes in his stead. There is a reason Rhaenys is the only one Viserys asks to speak.

I like that Rhaenyra's kids and Rhaenys' grandkids actually get on and seem to genuinely like each other, and had zero problem with discovering they've been bethrothed to each other. I guess their gang beatdown on Aemond was a real bonding moment for them Aegon himself liked his nephews just fine too when he was younger, but welp things fell apart quickly there.

To have a final episode like the last one to go out on for your character is like every actors wet dream too! He even got to adlib a bunch of stuff and have it stay in the episode, bringing even greater pathos to the entire thing. Just fantastic.

Otto/Alicent don't appreciate Aegon because he is squandering their machinations. They think he should be grateful and be worthy of the effort that they put in, like when they have to murder poor serving girls.

Aegon just gets the short end of the stick, narratively and in-universe. He doesn't care about court machinations or ancient prophecies, he just wants casual sodomy and lazy afternoons. His brother is the interesting character, since he is a legit sociopath who wants all the murder and intrigue he can get his Innsmouth hands on. And his wife, bless her heart, is a weird goony woman who has no appreciation for casual sodomy. Aegon isn't tragic, he's just plain ordinary. Which isn't a good thing to be in a complex murder show with dragons.

Viserys doing that slow walk to the throne, 9/10 dead and half his face eaten away by fantasy leprosy, just to do what he believed to be right is one of the most dignified things I’ve seen a character do anywhere in any of the GoT TV series (maybe any of the wealth of fantasy series we’ve got now). Paddy sold it so well too. Just an amazingly powerful scene. Over at the acoup blog (which is great), prof Deveraux talks about how medieval nobles did a lot of the poo poo that seems weird to us because their social environment and value system was totally different. Like, we find it easy to understand “don’t marry a peasant girl because it would have XYZ practical consequences” but more likely the nobles would be thinking “don’t marry a peasant girl because that’s what bad, irresponsible people do and I am a good person” (and then rides off to extort and torture some folks and commit murder on demand). Case in point, we now tend to think of war and all its violence and risk and death as a necessary evil in the way of getting some thing that you want, but in earlier posts he had some fascinating writing by medieval European and Islamic nobles along the lines of “Me? I loving LOVE war, it’s the best thing ever, I literally don’t feel alive when I’m not killing people, here’s some poetry I wrote about how awesome it is to get your buddies together and go do some war”.

This episode is strange because I liked it so much but, silly misunderstanding aside, it almost resolved the entire show. I'm not as eager to watch the next ep as I have been.

The nobles at least in europe arose from the mounted warlords that were better at protecting their peasants while screwing over their rivals during. The had to love war because that was pretty much their purpose, that's why they got to live big castle and eat good food because in time of war they have to fight. Also other than warring being their job, wars was great way to capture hostages for ransom.
