Okay, next crisis: I got an Xbox Core Controller to use while my deck is docked. They apparently paired ok if I held down the pairing button, but the indicator light on the controller keeps flashing really fast and the "NOT CONNECTED" indicator on the Deck's Bluetooth menu is flashing wildly on and off. If I hold the controller's sync button down again, its indicator light starts flashing slow instead of fast, and "NOT CONNECTED" stays up. I can't get a connection to hold for more than half a second. What do?

Found this somewhere else and literally just finished doing it. Thanks! :tipshat:

Next down the line is that the Xbox controller's input lag for any game (emulated or native) is pretty unusably bad. I'm seeing some reports of this problem but no solution seems actionable so far. Has this been a thing for anybody else ITT?

I've been using an Xbox One controller, and I haven't noticed any issues.

Also, in addition to my other question about swapping 3DS screens on the last page, does anyone know how to update your RetroAchievement password in Emudeck? I'm not seeing it in the tools, and I had to change my password earlier today so it's not working anymore. Edit: Nevermind, I just went through and did it manually in RetroArch/Duckstation/PCSX2. I really don't think there is a way to update it in Emudeck without reinstalling completely.

Try assigning “middle click” to a button, I believe that opens links in new tabs. Failing that, assign ctrl+click (simultaneously).

Turn off the frame limiter and turn off vsync in the emulator. YMMV though.

I tried the Rogue: Genesia demo and was interested by it but using the same structure as VS. From what I understand the stage structure seems more like Slay the Spire, though I've never played that game to know for certain.

You generally don't want to run the frame limiter at all with emulators. They all run off internal timers* that correspond to the refresh rate of the emulated system. At best, frame limiting just drops frames that the emulator is generating anyways, and at worst it's going to cause stutter and adversely affect input latency.

Wii/Wii U emulation tip: download the Deck plugin + PowerTools and reduce the number of threads to 4 when playing games - it actually overclocks the 4 active cores and makes most Wii games run without issue.

Ordered a Steam Deck 512GB off of eBay from the UK (I'm in Australia, a forbidden zone featuring actors and that Statue of Liberty from Planet of the Apes) for about $150 more than I'd pay on postage, GST and a US phone number and handling from a forward shipping service... and I'm fine with it.

Now I play the waiting game, and avoid all of my other consoles whilst feverishly searching for accessories, games and tips for a new toy.

You need to go into desktop mode and launch Cemu from Steam there. Then go to File > Install and navigate to meta.xml in the Meta folder for the relevant game. That will add it to Cemu and allow Steam Rom Manager to see it.

Has anyone sold their PC to just play on Deck? I honestly haven't used my gaming laptop once singe I got it, but...I dunno just not having the more powerful hardware there if I want it, keeps giving me pause on selling it. And if I want to play gamepass games it's much preferable to do it there, but I really just use gamepass on Xbox 95% of the time.

I'm not about to sell my PC, I do plenty of other stuff besides gaming on it and having the extra power for if I end up picking up something at some point that doesn't run well on the Deck seems worth keeping it around. But I've decided I'm probably not going to replace my laptop when/if it dies and I've been considering selling my PlayStation 4. It's honestly largely been collecting dust since even before I got the Deck, gaming on the Switch and my PC is just more convenient. The PlayStation 4 has been a platform of last resort for me for years now, I'm probably not going to pick up a PS5 even after they're readily available, especially with Sony porting all their first-party stuff to PC nowadays.

I do like 75% of my gaming on PS5, but I think ultimately I'm gonna just keep my laptop around and not upgrade it as well. It's just tempting to get rid of it and clear some space and maybe put 600 bux or so in my pocket, because it's not being used right now, but I only having the deck option would probably be annoying at some point when there is some thing I want to play on a bigger screen that I can't just play on console or want to play something that is less of hassle to just play using Windows.

Not saying you're wrong but what exactly are you trying to do? Can't think of any good reason to gently caress with the contents of /var/lib/flatpak, all the user modifiable stuff is in your home directory. If you really need to do it, might be better off installing it with flatpak --user so it installs to ~/.local/ instead and you don't need to gently caress with anything outside of home.

My Steam Deck was acting really problematic with the Dock, so I said gently caress it, wiped the whole thing and reimaged it. It's a much, much smoother experience now.

However it seems like all of my Emudeck saves and whatnot were wiped with the reinstall even though I have Emudeck on the microSD card... weeeeeeeelp.

Also , playing through HL2 on the Deck while watching King of The Hill is :discourse: I'm sure you've all watched something while playing something else, and those memories get tied together, probably for years if not forever.

Even back when I was a kid, I'd rent an NES game for the weekend, but I'd also want to watch TGIF. I have memories of playing GI Joe and watching Growing Pains, switching back and forth. One reminds me of the other, and I'm good with that.

Now, the helicopter fight at the end of Water Hazard will always remind me of everyone in Arlen thinking Hank buys a ton of porn.

I have fond memories of trying to watch Stargate (the series) and play the original Half-Life simultaneously. Can't multi-task though, so eventually I just stopped watching it and played more video games.

My Deck shipping seems to be stuck at “on its way to the final parcel centre”, and the last updates seem to have it still in the Netherlands. Did anyone else have this for several days before delivery to the UK? Detailed tracking isn’t showing me an updates since October 14th, although I guess it has been the weekend since then (not sure how much difference that makes in the world of international shipping).

How often do you play big multiplayer or AAA releases? If it’s likely there’s going to be big AAA releases down the line that you’d just rather have the full fat, locked 60fps experience with - then it makes sense to keep your PC around I guess?

Yes, both with my Deck and Dock. Its a slow transport from the Netherlands to the UK, took about 3-4 days both times.

As for getting rid of my main PC it's honestly something I've considered, but I'm one of the sick degenerates who plays League of Legends so I need Windows for that. Though I'd also probably just use my Macbook with a dock to do that. But at the same time I'd probably want to get a mini PC of some kind to connect to the TV for higher level emulation so its probably better for me to just move the PC and connect it directly to the TV. I might end up doing that if DeckOS ever becomes freely available to just install officially.

The Deck has changed up how I go about playing video games. My partner and I used to vigilant about what the other was into watching or playing so as to share the rig / tv. We never argued over it or anything, but there's less game to be had when it's always behind booting up the thing and fills up the room.

Unless it's particularly bombastic I'm happy to play my thing handheld on the couch and half- pay attention to some series or movie I wouldn't normally go for. More movies for them, more games for me. More movies for me too. The thing has been surprisingly good for Us.

This is a role that the Switch kind of filled, and the Wii U before that. But the novelty is gone where it's still strong with the Deck, and the library gives it longer legs. I love the Splatoon games and still haven't picked up the new one.

This is exactly why I've bought the Deck too.

The Switch is probably my favourite console of all time just down to the form factor. Me and my wife both work full time and have 4 kids, and we definitely don't share the exact same taste in entertainment, so competing for already limited down time just sucks for the both of us. The flexibility of the Switch just removes so much of that sense of compromise.

Where the Deck probably has an advantage over the Switch for me is that I'm a first party kinda guy for Switch games, so my mileage with it depends on which Nintendo games I'm playing at that time. For long stretches of time this can be little or nothing. The Steam library is obviously a lot broader and is a persistent ecosystem I've been in for over a decade. Like you, I think that's going to give the concept even more relevance than the Switch already offers.
