A good post and I broadly agree. That said, I think that Option A (the Tories force Truss to resign and appoint a different candidate, whether Wallace, Mordaunt, Hunt or Boris, etc) is most likely by far. There is less than zero chance chance they let Truss hold on - as you note it would finish the party for a generation, if not for good. As for holding an election now - its tempting, as it would let them dump all the problems they have created on Labour (yet again). But those brutal polls make me think they won't - they are greedy cowards addicated to power - they will likely prefer to hold onto power for the next 2 years - maybe anger will dampen down by then - a new PM might even manage to turn things around enough to eak out a narrow win in 2024. And if it doesn't, well they will have used those 2 years to dole out enough political favors to business to earn their juicy post-Parliament consultancies/board positions.

I'll be fine with being rationed during those hours... Hopefully by then have solar and battery fully established. It seem sensible to have those with off grid capability lessen the load during peak times.

Also, they can't be oblivious to the fact that Starmer is the exemplar of Pathetic Opposition. If the Tories can find someone to lead who can look competent and bring the media back on board, I can see Labour really struggling at the next election. They have the best and the brightest working for them [citation needed] and are on a Campaign Footing, but they loving suck when it comes to PR. It's lovely photoshopping and boring memes all the way. They still haven't re-established a campaigning team for on-the-ground stuff as far as I can tell (and they adore their own turds, so they'd have made a big deal of it if they had) and they're busy making sure a bunch of actually likeable candidates can't run in marginal seats. So who's going to get out the vote? Plus, they have Keith as leader, a man literally no-one can get even remotely enthused about. And he's backed up by some of the greyest middle-manager cunts who ever thought about politics, developing a set of policies that have been focus-grouped to be as inoffensive, bland and worthless as humanly possible.

What is a sludge burger and where can i buy one? Two in fact. If I'm going to freeze to loving death with the power out, I'm going to do it while double fisting pasted cow meat. Yes I'm aware of the connotation. I married an American and they use that to mean holding something in each hand. Because of course they do.

Well, it's Tuesday, Brady has come back from his noncing trip and has opened his mail, Jeremy oval office insists L*z Tr*ss is still in charge, Mommy Mordaunt says all these problems the Tories caused are the fault of The Last Labour Government, so welcome to the last day of the reign of Queen Elizabeth Hashtag Three I guess.

evilmiera posted:How does a party keep fielding less and less competent characters, is someone piping lead into Tory MPs drinkingwater? A friend and I were talking about this last week (during the last constitutional crisis) and we decided it's basically because they've gone through literally anyone who might be competent after years of May, BoJo, and now Truss leadership. Anyone who wasn't vehemently pro-Brexit was cast out and treated like a traitor, then we had cabinet reshuffle after cabinet reshuffle, scandal after scandal, so now there's very very few MPs left who 1) can be trusted (by Tories) to run anything, and 2) hasn't been touched by any of the poo poo going on in the last few years. No election since 2019 means they haven't had a chance to inject new blood into the MPs and the members think they're still bound by the 2019 manifesto. Imagine going back 3 years and saying Truss will be in charge of the country. The most common response would probably be "...who?"
