That's a really apt post and story. TJ Miller individually aside, I am somehow far more comfortable with people worshipping actors and showbiz types; at least that's an art form. Celebrity culture in all forms sucks poo poo but at least artists did something I can appreciate in a vacuum. Muskovites are infinitely sadder. Some rich pillhead's addled musings are the Future and Going To Save Us All. A guy who inherited blood emeralds and invested in web companies. I don't know what could Save Us All but at least I know he won't. Thank gently caress for that. Business sharks like him are the obstacle to us having a future.

think about this for a second: donald trump was the first business/celebrity crossover. he's the entire reason we have these fame seeking tycoons today. before that they didn't want to be known that well, it was a detriment to business if they gave too much to the public. not anymore, elon gets away with stock manipulation through shitposts. jones and rogan get more and more money the more insane the lies they tell or promote. the kardashians will sell sex tapes of their own kids to generate buzz and promote their cosmetics...it's all just so bonkers.

If we want to stretch our definitions of "celebrity CEO" we can go back at least to Cornelius Vanderbilt. American culture has celebrated wealth to an unhealthy degree for a long time, the only question is how broad such fame was if only because of the limited speed of news transmission. And Jones has further court dates in November to settle other outstanding issues remaining in the Connecticut case that rendered the 965MM judgments. Beyond that the thread probably is gonna be in hiatus until something interesting happens in either the FSS bankruptcy or appeals are filed and heard.

Pozner case is coming. On the post-verdict Knowledge Fight episode with Mark Bankston I think he said they're still waiting for a court date. He was hoping it would be in December but doesn't expect it until early next year.

Yeah, I was going to say that the idea that the wealthy preferred to hide themselves before the modern era was bonkers. Vanderbilt, Carnegie, Rockefeller, and many many used their money to publicly plant their names everywhere like flags. Just look at literally any university building, libraries, hospitals, parks in major cities.... the rich have publicly flaunted it for as long as the country has existed.
