Billy Hatcher's corked bat. It wasn't his. Hilariously, it belonged to pitcher Dave Smith. Or at least, it had Smith's number on the handle.

Others caught with cork:
Graig Nettles in 1974
Albert Belle in 1994 (the one Jason Grimsley Mission Impossible'd from the umpires room)
Wilton Guerrero in 1997
Sosa in 2003

Everyone involved in this sport has been the dumbest motherfuckers on earth for 150 years and I love it.

I can buy the Chris Sabo excuse. His original bat broke earlier in the AB and then the batboy gave him some other bat which was the corked one.

Sox have their new coach, also sounds like most of TLR's boys are being swept out too:

Never heard of this guy but that's probably for the best, presumably means the FO actually got to go out and get the guy they wanted without Reinsdorf sticking his hands in everything again.

Only 28 shy, which is still very impressive.

I'm actually more surprised that he hit 117 career home runs.

Only Rose and Cobb have more than 3000 singles. Ichiro is sixth on the all-time singles list with 2514; Jeter had 2595.

Fewer than 50 players all-time have more than 2000 singles, and about half of those guys are pre-modern era.

Among the current members of the 3000-hit club, the fewest plate appearances:

1) Roberto Clemente, 10212 PA
2) Tony Gwynn, 10232 PA
3) Nap LaJoie, 10471 PA
4) Rod Carew, 10550 PA
5) Ichiro Suzuki, 10734 PA

Ty Cobb has an OPS+ of 168 and no other 3000-hit player is higher than 159 (Musial).

Ichiro is last among 3000-hit players in OPS+ with 107.

Today I realized that Eddie Murray should be better remembered.

Higher OPS+ than Rose or Jeter. Basically tied for 6th all-time HRs among 3000-hit club (Miggy). Ninth in total bases among the 3000-hit club.

I'd never really thought about it until it randomly popped up in my head about a week ago, but Ty Cobb's career average of .366 is even more ludicrous when you consider the fact that all of his prime years took place during the Dead Ball Era.

If the GG voting is still the same formula where managers and coaches are 75% of the vote I just....I can't take it seriously.

Of course I spent my formative years watching Derek Jeter get multiple Gold Gloves and Rafael Palmeiro get one when he spent almost the entire season as a DH so my view of them is eternally tainted.

The O’s-Nats clusterfuck over their RSN is going to be a sore point in a Nats sale and MLB is stepping in to try and resolve things. Also Leonsis’ group (owns Caps, Wiz, and Mystics) appears to be the front runner.

Judge played like poo poo in the playoffs and he got booed. He also has been great for the majority of his career and has been cheered thousands of times. I saw yankee fans boo Jeter or Rivera, first ballot hall of famers and the vast majority of the time they are worshiped here. If you have that thin a skin then maybe this isn't the fanbase for him and he should go to the Giants.

He outplayed the contract and wants something longer term. This isn't a surprise and has nothing to do with fans booing anyone. I will say that I think Yankee fans overrate him a bit. He's not even a 3 WAR player at this point.
