I was told zoomers and younger generation kids are more open minded, tolerant and empathetic to their peers, but I've seen my nephews play fortnite and madden etc with their headsets and it is non stop Gamer Words.

It's really goddamn depressing to hear what sounds like a six year old kid saying "post noods or gee tee eff oh" when a female sounding username joins the game.

I definitely grew up initially playing games with basically no story, but the first time I discovered an RPG it basically blew my mind so hard that I never recovered and yeah still have a hard time playing games with no stories. I'm not sure if this is the most boomer adjacent opinion or the least millennial opinion but I actually love ads. I like seeing ads everywhere. I'll never buy anything I just like the aesthetic, can you imagine a cyberpunk world without ads.

The fact I can say some poo poo and my cellphone creepily hears it sends it to the big data and the next time I'm on any site bypassing adblocker I'll see ads for it is far more futuristic bizarre and cyberpunk than any media could come up with. As for the ads popping up out of nowhere on a street I got a weird version of that when I went to a hospital once and a speaker voice said my name outloud, "go to the area C-1 to your left" and I realized the entire place and all the rooms were face-scanned, and that despite being there for the first time the thing loving had me on its database.

We live in the most dystopian world and billboards everywhere, we need more billboards, Judge Doom was right.

Even in situations where people who ostensibly like guns, as they are carrying them in a public place, end up with active shooters, they do not always even try to/succeed in stopping the shooter, let alone finding out what happens when that 72-year-old who taught your 4th grade class is supposed to use a gun

I am sure your thinking is that somewhere in the school, if literally every teacher had a gun, which by the way is guaranteed to increase the rate of school shooting because suddenly all the students who think about it know they can get a gun ON-SITE, then at least a few of them would be competent/former military/hunters/whatever who would be able to find and take down the target. But I imagine what is far more likely to happen is that a bunch of kids still die in every school shooting and then there are, as I just mentioned, even more shootings given the increased number of guns.

Republicans are a literal death cult, and the best thing you can do is assume every one of their plans is fundamentally oriented towards increasing the amount of unnatural deaths in the world. I do recognize that you are acknowledging the current situation is also awful, though.

I'm not really for it, but I'm also not against it. But like you said, the reality is that just because you are yourself armed doesn't mean you are equipped to take on an active shooter and a combat scenario. I carry. I even have infantry training. But I carry a revolver. That's three loads of 5 rounds. I might as well not bother engaging a shooter with any kind of semi-auto rifle or handgun that is prepped longer shooting. I literally cannot win that scenario.

But, it is at minimum better than nothing, which is what our esteemed politicians have offered for decades now. So it's a poisonous pill, and plays into what people like the gasbags at the NRA want, which is that by virtue of them making no moves at all, you are forced to take the "practical" approach that supports their desired outcome in lieu of any actual solution to the issue.

You're entitled to think so. I have nothing to prove to internet strangers, other than to disagree with your statement. I simply have a different point of view and conclusion than you do.

[Edit] Also, just to head you guys off before you get rolling: not a republican, not a gun nut. Just a liberal veteran living in the South, trying to be realistic about how the political situation is down here. I'd prefer there be no firearms in school whatsoever. I'd prefer issues were addressed. But they are not. I vote for people to try and change that, but in Florida at least the NRA and the GOP have engineered a self-fulfilling sort of situation where you can't rely on the government to affect change in the short term as regards guns and the second amendment. This in turn leaves schools and other places vulnerable, since no actions are really being taken to effectively reduce public shootings. That then means you are your only defense, which is what the GOP wants. They then enable people to carry in those vulnerable places, and you are, if you are at all security minded, essentially forced into a position of accepting vulnerability, or taking the only legal options available to you. Which red states have decided is arming teachers.

So what exactly are you supposed to do, if you are a teacher with a CCW? Do what you can, even though it's not ideal, and is part of this stupid and calloused game that the GOP has been playing for a while now.

My thoughts anyway. It's a hot take, especially as a Democrat. But I don't think it's crazy or illogical. I can only say what I think. Just don't think I'm some gun crazy, idiot or extremist or something. I have spent some time pondering this.

Also, Dr. Quarex, I would add to my response as well that I actually am well aware of the ineffectiveness of arming essentially untrained civilian workers, and I have no illusions about that being a deterrent. I'm looking at it more from the perspective of a teacher. If it was me, I'd like the chance to try to defend myself and a class of kids, even if that chance is usually 0.5% Still, it's better than no chance at all, in my estimation.
