Starting SaGa Frontier, and Emelia seems super badass and I'd watch her 2000s scifi movie, but there was a robot option, so,

Emelia's scenario rules in part because it's such a blatant Charlie's Angels knockoff.

Red's is still the best and I'd take a SaGa Frontier 3 where every single character is a hero, either one of the Al-rangers or some other flavor of super hero organization.

Red's scenario is quite good if you even vaguely enjoy a super sentai homage and has some of the best music in a game with pretty drat good music, so you're probably doing yourself a disservice by putting it so low priority.

Lute is probably the closest to a traditional rpg story so keep that in mind if that's gonna be an issue.

T260G has a banger of a final boss song tho

T260G's final boss theme was the song I played the most in Theatrhythm Curtain Call, way before I ever touched SaGa Frontier. Absolute banger.

I finished Star Ocean 6 tonight and while I enjoyed it overall, it really felt like they poured all their budget into the open world aspect, then the combat, and none of it on the cutscenes which kind of left it feeling a bit dull towards the end as the plot wrapped up.

I don't regret picking it up as I adore the series and it's a far better entry than 5 I felt, but at the same time it sure felt like all the main characters could of used a few more animations for talking to each other. It just weirdly makes me want to go back and play 3 and 4 more than anything.

What open world, it's just big areas like 3/4/5

The cutscenes definitely reuse animations a lot but there's more than 5 and you can skip them on a replay at least because they didn't do the Half Life thing so hey, small steps

Well, I mean open world in the sense that "we want you to explore every nook and cranny using our neat traversal system" I guess? I dunno my brain is just hard wired to consider that an open world style map, even if they're sectioned off. I could of sworn some of the early marketing was focused around calling them open world maps, maybe that's why.

Not sure I'll do the full replay anytime soon, but I'll definitely go back to finish the bonus dungeons at some point. Might as well get the most out of it since from what I saw of the sale numbers gonna be a long time before Star Ocean props up again. :smith:

Is anyone farther in Lost Eidolon, does it ever stop being Bow Lords: The Range game? I feel like the game heavily rewards being able to use anything with range because the maps are uninteresting flat that dissuades from running too many melee, and I"m already having 5 range spells.

I just beat the game today, and unfortunately managing ranged attacks is kind of the meta-game.

Later chapters will have interesting and fun map design, but the designers clearly didn't recognize the folly of symmetrical PVE, i.e. what happens when you give the AI all the same capabilities as the player. As you get deeper into the game, you're going to be dealing more and more with the issue of the enemy being able to first strike you with limited-use long range attacks. My final formation only ran four melees to six ranged, and if not for the abundance of plate armor, I probably would have tipped that balance to 3-7.

In Star Ocean Divine Force, do you eventually get a fast travel? The backtracking to other locations multiple times in the first few hours of the game gets old really fast.

You get fast travel extremely early on, I felt like it was the very first time you have to backtrack anywhere. However it gives you a warning that you'll miss any conversations the characters have on the way.

Square has been offering a lot of demos for their games recently so they must believe that it is helping them in some way. I tried out Valkyrie Elysium and got a mostly wait for sale/gamepass impression.

Star Ocean 6 uses Denuvo.
A PC demo would mean either releasing a version of the game that might might make cracking the full game easier, or putting DRM on the demo as well (and paying for it)

Demos can indeed convince someone who was gonna buy the game not to buy it, but they can also convince someone who wasn't gonna buy the game to buy it.

Oh yeah, that. The logical thing would be to make a demo build that doesn't share stuff with the full game and obv doesn't have the full stuff but that's probably too much effort for publishers.

Square usually releases their PC titles with Denuvo and then quietly patches it out after a few months. I think it's strictly to discourage cracks during the full price launch window, they're not especially committed to having DRM on at all times.

If they made good games then demos wouldn’t be a problem with the former, I was on the fence on buying NEO:TWEWY because I figured there was no way they could faithfully do the combat in the same style on a non-DS system but then the demo proved me wrong!

I'm a vtuber expert
Star ocean 6 feels like an asset flip game. Oversized open world that has nothing in it except for random collectibles and the occasional asset. Nothing feels hand crafted or thought out. Why is there a mining town and a bustling port town with no road of any type between them? Barely any flat ground that could be used as a road.

Gonna go out on a limb and say the only reason the duma scan exists is because trying to find the tiny treasure chests and bunnies on these maps would be a hassle. But it doesn’t show duma crystals or items so you still have to run all around them.

Nice and cute strategy RPG, if a bit short and easy. From what I remember, it's light-hearted and comedic in nature without anything too challenging. I'd say five dollars is a more than fair price for it.

multiple cutscenes had me convinced that my game was bugged because there was no music playing and the dead silence was so weird
