Justin Tyme posted:Saw some article about a company 3d printing an entire neighborhood in Houston? I think it was. They're taking reservations for sales in 2023/2024, starting price: $400,000 3D printing is just a buzzword, Levitt was throwing up single family homes in a day from prefab components in 1947.

3D concrete printing is real, it's just not (how loving shocking) the technological panacea that the media wants it to be. It's a method of laying down concrete, which is probably legitimately useful, but a lot of "3D printed home" prototypes still use conventional stick framing all over the place. As usual, the media is desperate to sell excitement, so they assign all kinds of insane attributes to a fairly mundane and unremarkable technology. Just the term "3D printed house" is complete marketing garbage since you are, at most, printing some concrete walls and nothing else. Edit- PIR printing is the real funny one, though, because ICF blocks already exist and I've never heard anyone actually explain why printing polyiso makes any sense except in cases where you want to make weird curvy houses or something Paradoxish has issued a correction as of 17:16 on Nov 17, 2022 |

Also 100% the flipper painted over serious issues that will costs >$100k to fix. Shopping for a house taught me to avoid flipper houses. Always a ton of bullshit wrong with them, from poor craftmanship to deadly creative electrical work. edit: I love that realtor.com shows all the nearby homes valued at $100k cheaper and not looking like a poo poo remodel. concrete block is huge in Florida. growing up there it was a shock when houses weren’t made of concrete block. houses were either historic, block, or trailers.

I like the giant gap under the counter next to the stove you could fit in pretty easily if this is your elderly nanas house and you’re a child playing hide and seek
